Tiki Barber’s Final Stand?

Tiki BarberThe word is that Tiki Barber will retire at the end of the year from the New York Giants. Tiki has played his entire career in New York and had close to 15,000 total yards and 62 touchdowns. I really respect a player going out on top rather than waiting until he withers away like some professional athletes. I think the one thing he might miss out on is the Hall of Fame. Read the article below for more on this topic.

SportsUnderground.com’s Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

SportsUnderground.com's Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

This week the award won’t be given to an individual because we have two teams in college football who decided they want the award way more than any individual. Saturday night the Miami Hurricanes and Florida International University broke into a melee for the record books. Thirteen players were ejected in total from the game and now at least 31 will be suspended for their next games after school officials were able to review the footage (link to video footage below). The penalties are not nearly strong enough for the actions these players took on the field. It was by far the worst display of behavior I have ever witnessed in a college football game. (Yes I am counting the South Carolina/Clemson brawl from a few years back)

On a side note Miami school officials are meeting today on the next steps for their football program. Could Larry Coker get fired even before the end of the season?

Justice is Served for Lawrence Phillips

Lawrence PhillipsWe might finally be blessed with no longer hearing Lawrence Phillips name in the news now that he was sentenced to jail yesterday. Phillips faces 20 years in the clink for his role in driving his car onto a field in 2005 and running over people he was playing with in a pickup football game. He hit three people who were all teenagers and nearly hit three more because his team was losing the pickup game. Lawrence…a pickup game with teenagers???  This is the same man who repeatedly has been accused of beating women while playing with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Miami Dolphins. Have fun in jail Lawrence because it’s one thing you truly deserve.

Green Bay Groupie in Office?

Green Bay PackersSandy Sullivan a 65 year old republican is in a race for the secretary of state in Wisconsin and letting it all hang out. She is the author of “Green Bay Love Stories and Other Affairs” from 2004 that details her sexual escapades with specific Green Bay Packers from the Lombardi days. Sullivan is referencing it every chance she gets even on her campaign website. She claims to be the old girlfriend of Packer greats Paul Hornung and Dan Currie and called them “fast, sleek and clean.” Can this really win her the race for secretary of the state? I say if by chance she does then they really are cheeseheads in Wisconsin.

SportsUnderground.com’s Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

SportsUnderground.com's Dumbass of the Week AwardThis week it was actually a close call between Jimmie Johnson and Terrell Owens for our prestigious award. Jimmie Johnson appeared to take out Dale Earnhardt Jr. on purpose yesterday at Talladega therefore pretty much eliminating any chances of “Little E” winning the Nextel Cup. While we would love to give the award to anyone associated within the “Rainbow Warrior” entourage we can’t do it this week. Terrell “Overdose” Owens ends up taking the cake as the Dumba$$ of this week. TO after much hoopla and smack talk rolled into Philly yesterday as a Dallas Cowboy and laid an egg. Owens had no catches at halftime and ended up with 3 for 45 yards while his arch enemy Donovan McNabb went off for 354 yards and a big 38-24 win for the Philadelphia Eagles. Hat tip McNabb and thumbs down Owens.

Holy Heisman Hopeful

Garrett WolfeCall me silly, but I think Garrett Wolfe of Northern Illinois should be really looked at as a Heisman candidate. Yes he plays in the MAC and will only go to a small bowl game, but he is one college football stud! This past weekend he rushed for 353 yards and three touchdowns against Ball State. Wolfe already has 1,181 yards five games into the season. Let’s show some love this year to the mid-major playas!

Baby cause I’m a thug!

Albert HaynesworthAlbert Haynesworth of the Tennessee Titans decided it was time to show the world how much class he has in yesterday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. After the helmet of Dallas Cowboys Andre Gurode came off on the goal line Albert Haynesworth decided to do a jig on his face. The stomp caused Gurode to get over 30 stitches and was one of the worst displays of sportsmanship I have seen. Haynesworth was ejected from the game and I hope he gets at least a four game suspension, but only time will tell.

Madden Football Curse Strikes Again

Madden 2007People reference the supposed curse all the time and oddly enough it strikes again. Reigning MVP Shaun Alexander who graces the 2007 Madden cover broke a bone in his foot this past Sunday and is more than likely out 4-6 weeks. This will be a huge blow to the Seahawks success in upcoming games and will he fully recover in time for a the important stretch run to the playoffs?

In respect to the Madden curse review the stars who were the faces of previous Madden games and what happened to them during that season.

Donovan McNabb ’06 – sports hernia in the first game of the year and then the TO debacle.

Ray Lewis ’05 – first season without INT and then missed last game with a broken wrist.

Michael Vick ’04 – fractured right fibula basically days after the game hit the stores.

Marshall Faulk ’03 – ankle injury and never once again broke the 1,000 yard mark for the season.

Daunte Culpepper ’02 – struggled to 4-7 record before a season ending knee injury.

Eddie George ’01 – career year, but key turnover led to playoff loss.

Barry Sanders 00′ – retired the week before training camp

Steve Smith Back in the Saddle?

Steve SmithSteve Smith of the Carolina Panthers practiced full speed yesterday for the first time in over twoo weeks. This is excellent news for all Panthers fans after the 0-2 start to the season basically because of the pathetic display of offense. Please “hamstring god” let Steve Smith play full speed this weekend. 🙂

SportsUnderground.com’s Dumb A$$ of the Week Award

This week it goes to Chris Gamble of the Carolina Panthers. His bonehead idea to try a “Music City Miracle” lateral…err backwards pass…basically lost the game for the Carolina Panthers against the Minnesota Vikings and put them at 0-2 to start the season.
