Olympic Ecstasy

It was widely known coming into the Winter Olympics that Olympic village would be locked and loaded with 10,000 condoms for the athletes to use at their leisure. Well, unfortunately 10,000 weren’t enough because the amount didn’t last the full two weeks and another shipment had to be requested. When you break that down it means roughly 14 condoms per athlete were used and based on the looks of some of the athletes I don’t think they are all joining in on the fun. I’m sure a decent amount of condoms are being taken home for souvenirs, but it seems the stigma attached to all the partying that goes down at Olympic Village is very true. I wonder how many condoms our favorite American female downhill skier (seen above in zebra print) has used over the last two weeks?

Jordan Buys Bobcats

Michael ‘Air’ Jordan has reached an agreement to be the new owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. BET founder and current owner Bob Johnson of the Bobcats announced earlier this morning that he would sell the organization to Jordan. It was only a couple of weeks ago that speculation began on the sale of the team so negotiations progressed very quickly. One of the main reasons the deal was done so fast is due to lack of interest from other parties. George Postolos president of the Houston Rockets was speculated as the only other person of note interested in purchasing the team. Jordan has his work cut out for him considering the Bobcats have not won more than 32 games in their first four seasons, but they are currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference so things could be looking up.

Where Will LT Land?

One of the top 15 running backs in the history of the NFL is now a free agent after being released by the San Diego Chargers earlier in the week. LT turns 31 in June which is definitely on the downside of his career considering he really hit the wall a couple of years back. Tomlinson has been known as a breakaway back throughout his career, but those days are unfortunately gone it appears. I think there is potential for him to be a key player for a team like the New England Patriots who love to sign veterans and fold them into the mix. I also think the Saints are an excellent fit for Tomlinson considering he played with Drew Brees for several years and Brees even tweeted recently that he would love to have him in New Orleans. Once you start looking past these two teams the potential for other places to land seems a lot less realistic. LT has been a class act for his entire career and since he is still interested in playing next year I really hope he gets a chance.

Potential #1 Seeds

I think it’s safe to say that Kansas and Kentucky are destined to be number one seeds in the 2010 NCAA tournament barring a complete meltdown in the next couple of weeks. The third top seed should end up being Syracuse because they have looked like one of the top four teams in the country all year. The Orange has Nova in the Carrier Dome this coming Saturday and they do have to play in Louisville for the last game of the regular season so it’s up to them to lock it up. Now, who will get the last spot? Nova had this spot right in their grasp before last week, but two losses in a row have us looking elsewhere. In the end it will probably be Duke because they have won 6 in a row and should win out unless they lose at Maryland next week. If Duke does stumble then Purdue is next most logical team with Nova, Kansas State, West Virginia and Ohio State waiting in the wings. Three weeks from now we will know for sure and the anticipation seems to build with every passing day.

Ohno Makes American Olympic History

Apolo Anton Ohno won his seventh Winter Olympic medal yesterday on the short track 1000m. Ohno wasn’t looking good with three laps to go considering he was in last place, but as usual he made a big push and captured third place for a bronze medal. Apolo is now being referred to as America’s most decorated athlete ever of the Winter Games because his seventh medal broke a tie with speed skater Bonnie Blair. We should point out Blair captured five golds over her career and to date Ohno has two. Ohno can add to his illustrious Olympic career because he still has two more events to go with the 500m and 5000m relay.
