Cromartie in a Crunch

Antonio Cromartie is without a doubt a talented cornerback, but is he really a good pickup for the New York Jets? Cromartie has had serious off the field issues with the San Diego Chargers in recent years and I think they were happy to see him go. He has seven kids with six different women living in five separate states, and he has been named in at least five paternity suits in just the past two years. Reportedly the Jets had to front Antonio a half-million dollars from his 2010 salary in order to help him address his looming paternity issues. Cromartie is set to make $1.7 million this year in the final year of his five-year deal and wasn’t supposed to start getting paid his annual salary until the first week of the regular season. That wasn’t going to work for Cromartie though because all his baby-mamas were due some serious cash and he needed to pony up. I don’t care how talented a player might be when you see this type of scenario playing out off the field you need to make a conscious decision to not bring the guy into your organization. Cromartie will probably be a good compliment to Reavis, but for how long and when will all the drama catch up with him?

Arizona Angst

Things haven’t been going so well for the Arizona Cardinals ever since their embarrassing loss to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional round of this year’s playoffs. Possible Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner retired and over the last few days the Cards have lost several key impact players to other teams. Anquan Boldin finally got his wish and was traded to the Baltimore Ravens while starting safety Antrel Rolle signed with the New York Giants and stud linebacker Karlos Dansby decided to become part of the Miami Dolphins. I know the Cardinals still have Larry Fitzgerald, Darnell Dockett along with some possible emerging stars in Beanie Wells and Steve Breaston, but they have taken a huge step back in recent weeks.

I think it is safe to say the Cardinals recent run is over and the door is now wide open for either the Seahawks or 49ers to step up and win the NFC West. Ken Whisenhunt is a good coach, but they have a lost a lot of talent and Matt Leinart simply isn’t the answer at quarterback.

Steve the Caddie Knows Nothing!

Tiger Woods’ caddie Steve Williams has had it with people thinking he was in the know about Tiger’s infidelity so he decided to speak out. Williams was interviewed by New Zealand TV 3’s 60 Minutes (who knew) recently and vehemently stated he never knew what Tiger was up to in respect to all the affairs even though he has a very close relationship with Tiger. Williams professed, “I’m a straight-up sort of person. If I had known something was going on, the whistle would have been blown. He knows that.” Williams went on to say, “Of course I’m mad at him, why would you not be? I’m close with his wife and he’s got two lovely children and he’s let them down, every single person believed that I should know or did know or had something to do with it. I knew nothing, that’s my answer.” The jury is still out on whether Williams is telling the truth and we probably won’t ever actually know, but if I were him I would be a bit cautious about what I said. If it wasn’t for Tiger no one would know a thing about Steve Williams and he wouldn’t be nearly as wealthy. I’m probably being a bit naive though because this is probably just another in a series of publicity stunts to try and clean up Tiger’s image.

College Basketball Bets of the Day – March 4th, 2010

Yesterday was a real stinker and one we hope to not replicate anytime soon. Those days will happen and you just have to forget all about them and move on to the next day. Have a great day and good luck to everyone!

Kansas Assistant Loves Him Some Porn

Kurtis Townsend an assistant coach for the Kansas Jayhawks must be a really huge fan of porn or he is just looking to to have some fun with a professional. Townsend provided free courtside tickets to adult film star Samantha Ryan for last night’s rivalry game against Kansas State in Lawrence, Kansas. Samantha is an alum from the University of Kansas (they must be so proud) and she was so happy about her courtside seats she tweeted her appreciation and took photos for her fans. Ryan is 26 years old and has already been in over 140 pornos to date in case you are counting. Samantha’s support must have helped because the Jayhawks destroyed #5 Kansas State 82-65 last night

Is LeBron James Preparing to Leave?

Rumors have been flying for at least two years now that LeBron James will be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers after this season when he becomes a free agent. Well, King James filed paperwork yesterday to change his jersey number from 23 to 6 starting next season and it has all the conspiracy theorists in a tizzy. This news surfaced on the same day the Cavaliers played the Knicks for the final time this year and only a few months before free agency begins. If you plan on going somewhere else you might as well start anew with a completely different number ala Michael Jordan, right? In New Jersey Courtney Lee currently rolls with #6, but no one on the New York Knickerbockers has that number. Hmmm.

Let me play devils advocate here for just a second. LeBron idolizes Michael and stated earlier this season that no player should wear #23 and went on to say Jordan should be the new NBA logo. So might this be the reason for the change in his jersey number? Also, LeBron owns a $25 million dollar pad in Akron that he wouldn’t be selling anytime soon, if ever, should he choose to leave. And finally, LeBron would get paid more by the Cavs than any other NBA team could offer and he actually does seem to be someone who leans towards the ‘home is where the heart is’ mantra. In my humble opinion LeBron isn’t going anywhere and all the speculation is just media fodder.

I do see one small possibility that could lead to LeBron leaving town and it will make things really tricky if it does happen. Should LeBron win the NBA Finals this year he very well might feel like his work is done in Cleveland and move on to a different team. So to all you Cav fans do you want to win it all this year or do you want to keep LeBron? I think I know the answer to that question, but I will leave it at that for now!
