Sergio Garcia Goofs

Sergio Garcia

Sergio Garcia has been disqualified today from the PGA Championship at Southern Hills due to signing an incorrect score card. Sergio wasn’t really in the running in the major with his +9 score, but this has to be an embarassment nonetheless. Every PGA golfer knows its a must to check your scorecard at the end of your round to make sure the player you are paired with has recorded the appropriate scores for you. At least Garcia found a new way to bumble his way right out of a tournament. 😉

Natalie Gulbis Hits the Jackpot

Natalie Gulbis

SportsUnderground.com’s #1 Top Sports babe won her very first LPGA tournament this past weekend. Gulbis defeated South Korean Jeong Jang in the first hole of a sudden-death playoff on Sunday at the Evian Masters. We are so proud of our little Natalie and we wish her even more success in the coming months.

Irish Eyes Smiling

Padraig Harrington

Padraig Harrington won the British Open yesterday at Carnoustie after a playoff against Sergio Garcia. Paddy found ‘Barry burn’ twice on the 18th hole to record a double bogey, but then Garcia came right behind him with a bogey to send it to the playoff. This is just another total decompression from Sergio and a magnificent feat for Harrington. Padraig is only the second Irish golfer to win The Open.

The British Open at Carnoustie

Carnoustie The British Open

I love the British Open and Carnoustie is a fabulous course. Does anyone remember the last Open at Carnoustie and Jean Van de Velde’s monumentous blowup?

Arrivederci Seve

Seve Ballesteros

Today Seve Ballesteros announced he is done with professional golf after 30 years and five major championships. Those lucky enough to watch him play in the 70’s and 80’s know he at one point was DA MAN!

Kid ‘n Play in the LPGA

Alexis Thompson12 year old Alexis Thompson will participate tomorrow in the kickoff to tomorrow’s LPGA US Open at Pine Needles. Alexis is a seventh grader who broke the previous record by 7 months and 20 days of being the youngest girl to play in the LPGA US Open set by Morgan Pressel. Alexis seems very level headed since her main goal coming into the tournament is to just make the cut.  My biggest concern is there aren’t any ice cream trucks driving by while Alexis is on the course or the rythmic music along with the scent of a Nutty Buddy will surely throw off her game.

Angel Cabrera Wins US Open

Angel Cabrera

Angel Cabrera from Argentina captured the US Open title yesterday despite the pressure of having Tiger Woods in contention on the final day of a golf major. I think every golf announcer in the booth and on the course felt there was no way any player could handle the Tiger pressure, but in the end they were wrong. Cabrera and his carton of cigarettes were on fire (haha) all day! I swear I saw Cabrera with a cigarette in his hand at least four times on the final day and I haven’t seen that since the Ian Woosnam days. Congrats to Angel and which cigarette company will hire him as a sponsor first?

Natalie Gulbis Update

Natalie Gulbis

This week Natalie is in New Jersey at the Sybase Classic. Could this be the week she wins her first LPGA title?

TPC Champ

Phil Mickelson

It’s amazing how much relief from stress one can get when they win the The Players Championship and $1.62 million. The monkey is off your back for at least one week Phil. 😉

TPC Time Baby

Sawgrass Hole 17

The so-called ‘fifth major’ gets cranked up tomorrow morning and it comes with a lot of hype. This year the tournament isn’t played during the NCAA basketball tournament and it isn’t lurking in the shadows of The Masters. The date change isn’t the only adjustment due to the addition of a new 77,000 square foot club house and major changes to the golf course itself. All these changes in conjunction with an event that has 80 of the top 100 players in the world lends to an exciting four days of golf. The TPC also offers the same number of FedEx Cup points as the four major championships plus it has the biggest winnings purse that flaunts a whopping $9 million. As usual the normal favorites are being tossed around with the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and so on, but I think Adam Scott will bring home the bacon this weekend. Thoughts?
