College Football Bets of the Day – September 1st, 2011

It seems like it has been ages since the Fiesta Bowl when Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers defeated the Oregon Ducks. Tonight the college football season begins again and we couldn’t be more excited. Good luck!

It’s Kick Off Time Playa’s!

The college football season kicks off this Thursday so I want to quickly throw out the top five predictions by D2B.

My top five at the end of the season will be:

#1 South Carolina – No LSU and they get Auburn and Florida at home. Tough road stretch of games 7-9 where they go to Mississippi St, Tennessee and Arkansas, but they come through it.

#2 Nebraska – Huskers bring Big 12 swagger to the Big 10 and they don’t play anyone without a dress until @ Wisconsin 10/1. Ohio St, Spartans and Iowa to finish season, but all at home. Good schedule and QB experience will get them into the title game.

#3 Oregon – After opening against LSU with a win the Ducks have a pretty easy schedule considering USC will be at home.  At Stanford November 12th is the game that will make or break their season.

#4 Oklahoma – At Florida State week 2, @ Baylor week 10 and @ Stillwater week 12 along with a neutral clash with Texas makes this year’s Sooners squad a bit vulnerable. If they make it out of the 1st 11 games look for the Oklahoma State game to dictate which BCS bowl they play in.

#5 Virginia Tech – The Hokies have 1 team in the top 25 on their schedule and that team (Miami) is in investigation hell.  Not really much in their way except @ Georgia Tech week 10. Beamer really has a chance this year.

It’s Here! It’s Really Here! Well Almost!

Fore score and 6 months and 5 days ago we watched the last televised football game of of any consequence.  That makes this Thursday so stupendous because it brings us the first nationally televised football game since the Super Bowl on February 6th. Take a deep breath though since it is only preseason and we will have to endure 4 weeks of meaningless scrums before the real thing begins in 28 days. Then on September 8th we will get to enjoy a game at Lambeau pitting the last two Super Bowl Champs Saints and Packers against each other.

This year it is more than preseason though because it is the end of a long battle between NFL owners and players. The time has come to study long and hard on who you want to take in the 12th round of your fantasy football draft and to determine if this is the year you upgrade your television for your NFL watching enjoyment. In the last three weeks there has been a whirlwind of free-agent signings and looking forward there is a strong possibility of injuries which should lead to a wild and wacky season. It’s almost time to defrost the frozen potato skins, DiGiorno pizzas and buffalo wings because it’s time for FOOTBALL!

CFL Wagers from D2B

Take off eh! Might as well dip the toes into the Canadian Football League with a few wagers this weekend.

Saturday’s CFL Selections:

Edmonton is better than their record – Take 3 at Calgary

Winnipeg is good – Give 3.5 with Toronto at home

Sunday’s CFL Selections:

Saskatchewan is horrible – Give 11.5 and take Montreal at home

I’m Taking My Talents to the NFL?

Those words spoke volumes when Kobe announced his intention to go into the NBA draft in 1996 and then again when LeBron made his ‘Decision’ last summer. Now with the world collapsing around the Ohio State Football program, Pryor’s 5 game suspension, an embattled and loyal coach resigning and a cloud of controversy over his head Terelle has decided to leave the program and seek greener pastures. The #1 recruit in the country back in 2008, where by choosing Ohio State over Michigan solidified the end of Rich Rodriguez, will not take another snap for the Buckeyes.

While not being the only player with ghosts he was also the highest profile on the team and in the wake of Maurice Clarett and now the latest major violations at USC Terelle for better or worse decided that he would be a major detriment to the team and long term to the program. I am shocked that the NCAA has totally hammered USC yet allowing Ohio St. to have all their players for the bowl game last year and not penalizing the school. With the NCAA you never know what the rules to penalties are and I am sick of the games. We still don’t know the extent of the failures, but in the end it can’t be any worse than what Reggie Bush’s parents did.

Karma is a B#*ch O.J.

Former NFL star and Heisman winner O.J. Simpson was recently beat down in prison per a report from the National Enquirer. Reportedly a skinhead at the Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center didn’t take kindly to O.J. bragging about his accomplishments with white women and decided to act out his frustration. O.J. was roughed up so bad that he was beaten unconscious and had to spend nearly three weeks in the infirmary in order to recover from his injuries. O.J. is allegedly so shook up he is afraid to leave his cell and is quite depressed. Simpson is spending at least nine years behind bars for his act in an armed confrontation with sports memorabilia dealers back in 2007. The next few years could be a living hell for O.J. and I think a lot of the population feels justice is being served.

Who Will Sign Plax?

The receiver who hapharzardly shot himself in the leg inside a nightclub in New York City and ultimately went to jail for it, is expected to be a free man this June. Which team will sign Plax for 2011? The Jets and Panthers seem to be two possible candidates, but there could be several other teams in the mix. The Jets could be losing Braylon to free agency and the Panthers are in desperate need for a playmaker. Burress has stated he wants to play once he is out of jail and you have to figure someone recently released from the pen would sign on the cheap, right?

D2B AFC/NFC Championship Pix

Today in my opinion is the best day of football outside of Super Bowl Sunday. Essentially you have Super Bowl games in one day and with less commercial interruption. Here are my selections for the AFC and NFC Championships.

Game 1 has the mystique of being the longest rivalry in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers visit their ole nemesis the Chicago Bears. Forget the fact that it will be 15 degrees with a wind chill of 0 and that in 2 games these teams have scored a total of 50 points this year. The over is set at 42.5 and Rodgers and the Packers have been roling and Chicago put up a lot of points last week so it’s going over, right? Don’t fool yourselves as this game will be just like the other two and dominated by defense.  The only question is which team is going to come away with the hard fought victory and cover the spread? The Pack is a 3.5 point favorite and is playing their third straight road playoff game. If they win they will become the third team in NFL History to get to the Super Bowl by winning all 3 roadies. The other two teams were the ’05 Steelers and ’07 Giants both of them went on to win the Super Bowl.  The Packers defense is as healthy as they can be and are playing like the best in the NFL and they have the hottest QB in the Playoffs. But, the Bears are fighters and they keep surprising everyone. In what the Bears fans call the biggest game in their history I am leaning on receiving the 3.5 pts. I will be hoping that a late TD or FG will give me the spread, but I still believe the Packers will come out of this with a victory and move on to the Super Bowl.

Take the 3.5 points with the Bears covering

================================

The Nasty Bowl pits the Steelers against the outspoken NY Jets.  This is a game that everyone believes will be a blood bath. Ben Roethlisberger will find away to will his team to victory and a Mark Sanchez mistake will provide the needed spread buster and the over 38 to happen.

Give the 4 points and take the Steelers to cover

We Have Some NFL Games to Watch

The NFL has turned out to be a version of Storage Wars or a Forrest Gump box o’ chocolates because you just don’t know what you are gonna get. I mean who would have thought that Seattle would beat the reigning NFL champs and who believed that Green Bay would beat Mike Vick and Philly last weekend? This past weekend we had the Packers and Jets go on the road for the second consecutive and week win outright.

Now this upcoming weekend we have the oldest rivalry in all of the NFL between the Packers and Bears who will battle for a birth to the Super Bowl. This will be the third straight road game in the Playoffs for Green Bay. The New York Jets will also play in their third straight road game at Pittsburgh. I will give you my predictions later this week, but no matter who wins in either game we should have an exciting match-up for Super Bowl XLV.

College Football Bet of the Day – January 10th, 2011

Tonight the 2010 college football season will come to an end with the BCS Championship game in Glendale, Arizona. The Oregon Ducks take on the Auburn Tigers in one of the more highly anticipated title games in recent years. The line has shrunk in the last few days for Auburn and the over/under is falling as well. Good luck with whoever you take!

Oregon +1
