In a bizarre twist of fate Byron Leftwich is no longer the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jack Del Rio announced today that not only is David Garrard now the starter, but Leftwich will be cut or traded. Ouch! I knew there was no love lost between these two based on their disagreements from last year when Leftwich didn’t agree with being benched even though he was injured, but this is quite a surprise. The main question now is how long until the Atlanta Falcons acquire the veteran quarterback? If he doesn’t get picked up though he can always star as Rerun in What’s Happening II. 🙂
New NFL Logo
The NFL will introduce a new logo during the draft this coming year. The current one has been in place since 1980. We have included some tidbits on the reason behind the changes. I know this is random, but we dig stuff like this here at SportsUnderground.com.
*The new shield features eight stars that represent the eight NFC and AFC divisions rather than 25 on the current logo. No one knows why there used to be 25.
*The football at the center has been updated to resemble the ball atop the Vince Lombardi championship trophy. It no longer looks like the ‘flying hamburger’ you see in the current logo.
*This change will be a VERY expensive one when you start to think about apparel, groundskeepers, video games, football makers, etc.
I have to say I’m not sure its worth it and why mess with history.
DeAngelo Hall Has A Message for Ocho Cinco
Last night DeAngelo Hall had a surprise for Chad Johnson. Below is the picture of the honorary haircut Hall unveiled.
Michael Vick Saga Continues
Today Michael walked into a Richmond court and plead guilty to dogfighting charges. In his written plea filed last week, Vick admitted helping kill six to eight pit bulls and supplying money for gambling on the fights. He said he did not personally place any bets or share in any winnings.
BS, BS, BS! You funded, you set up the kennel, you attended fights, you gambled your a$$ off and you helped kill dogs.
The sentencing is set for December 10th and the judge made sure today that Vick was aware he can rule on this case however he sees fit. I sure hope this means the sentence will be for a lot longer than a year, but I just got a gut feeling that won’t be the case.
The Atlanta Falcons have announced they will not cut him at this time.

LJ Signs
I know the Kansas City Chiefs are ecstatic and so am I since Larry Johnson is my main keeper in my fantasy football league. Johnson signed a five-year extension worth $43.2 million and $19 million is guaranteed. I guess this new contract will help him pay the $357,000 he owes for holding out of training camp the last 25 days. I couldn’t pay that fine back in 10 frickin years!!!
Michael Vick Pleads Guilty
Vick finally ended the suspicion of whether he was involved in the dogfighting ring today by pleading guilty. He will walk into a Federal courthouse next Monday and make it official. The fallout for Vick will be huge in respect to the sentence he receives for prison, the inevitable suspension from the NFL and what steps the Falcons might take to collect previously paid money. I do want to point out that Michael pleading guilty might be the smartest move he has made in quite some time. Don’t forget to take a peek at our Michael Vick page.
Pacman Can’t Compete
No no, not in the NFL because we know that is still a long ways away if ever again. The Titans had received a temporary restraining order Friday that prohibited “King Thug” in even appearing at the TNA “Hard Justice” pay-per-view wresting event tomorrow. A judge has allowed Pacman to appear at the wrestling event, but he won’t be allowed to touch or be touched, use or be hit by any object or anything else that could injure him. I don’t see these stipulations leaving much for Pacman to do, but if I know Pacman he will break the rules anyway because that’s how he rolls.

Brady Banks
Brady Quinn fell from a possible top 3 pick all the way to the 22nd pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Quinn finally inks a deal with the Browns after almost a two-week hold out. Brady Quinn agreed to a five-year contract worth $20.2 million and the possibility of $30 million over five years based on escalations in the contract. Cleveland guaranteed $7.75 million of the contract and for that I’m sure Quinn is pleased by holding out. Know will the Cleveland Browns be pleased with him?

Calvin Johnson Signs Deal
The #2 pick in this year’s draft has signed a six year deal with the Detroit Lions. Things were pretty tense the last few days about when the Lions could actually get Johnson into camp. I’m sure this is a huge relief to Jon Kitna since he predicted at least 10 wins this year. 😉
