No Crying Please

Andrei Kirilenko

Andrei Kirilenko was driven to tears Saturday after the Jazz lost to the Houston Rockets 84-75. He was crying because he didn’t get to play enough in the game. Andrei played only 16 minutes and scored a measly two points. Sloan said he stayed with Harpring in the game because he was playing considerably better than Kirilenko.

You are playing in the NBA and making $12.3 million a year Andrei…..suck it up and be a man!!!

NBA Western Conference Upsets

Every team in the NBA Playoffs has played one game now and for the most part it was straight chalk. As a matter of fact all the higher seeds won their first round game until the last two games of yesterday. Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony combined for 61 points and outlasted the Spurs 95-89 in San Antonio. The Nuggets won their first game against San Antonio in the 2005 playoffs too, but then lost the next four games to the Spurs who went on to win then NBA Championship that year. The Nuggets know this is only one game, but if they keep scoring like they did last night then we might have a big upset in the first round of the playoffs.

Denver Nuggets

The final game of the night was even a bigger surprise than the Spurs upset. It shouldn’t be since Golden State has owned the Mavericks by winning their last five coming into last night’s game in Dallas. Baron Davis poured in 33 points and Golden State made it six wins in a row against the Mavericks with a 95-87 victory. Stephen Jackson dropped 23 and Jason Richardson added 13 for the Warriors while Dirk Nowitzki struggled bad and ended up with 14 on the night. This is supposed to be the year for Dallas and this certainly isn’t a way to start off your quest for the NBA Championship.

NBA First Round of Playoffs

NBA Playoffs

Are there going to be any big upsets in the first round of the playoffs this year? The first round series normally are yawners, but I am going to try and predict one that will surprise you. Let me know what you think!

I really really want to pick the Warriors over the Mavericks, but I just can’t pull the trigger. I am going to take the Nuggets over the Spurs instead.

‘Old Man’ Oden Going Pro

Greg Oden

Greg Oden of Ohio State has ended all the speculation by announcing he is entering the NBA draft. Two of his Buckeye teammates Mike Conley Jr and Daequan Cook have also announced they are entering the draft, but won’t hire an agent.

Mark my word that Oden will go first in the draft this year. Durant may be the better play in the long run, but no team will pass up the chance of getting an instant star in the post.

Who’s Laughing Now Joe-Joe?

So, as seen earlier on Sportsunderground, Joey Crawford tossed Tim Duncan for laughing from the bench. Well, today the joke was on Crawford, suspended indefinitely for supposedly challenging Duncan to fight on the court.

By the way, in the photo below, Byron Scott has just about the biggest “Whatchu talkin’ ’bout Willis?!” look I’ve seen in a while.

Lil’ Romeo, Lil’ Romeo

Percy 'Romeo

Rapper Master P’s son Percy “Lil’ Romeo” Miller has committed to Tim Floyd and the USC mens basketball team. The star player for Beverly Hills High School averaged 13.9 points and 5.6 assists per game this past season and had done extremely well at high caliber summer basketball camps. “Lil’ Romeo”, as he was known back in the day is growing up and has decided to take time off from his rapping career to focus on basketball and school. You go Romeo!

Tim Duncan Ejected

for having too much fun yesterday in the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks matchup. Think I’m kidding? Check out the video clip of Tim Duncan being ejected by referee Joey Crawford for laughing on the sidelines. This has to be the silliest ejection ever and Crawford should be suspended for a game without pay. There is obviously some history with these two, but how do you dislike Tim Duncan?

Tommy Amaker Employed Again

Tommy Amaker
His new job isn’t quite the gig he used to have, but at least he is getting a paycheck again. Amaker who was recently fired from the Michigan Wolverines because he flat out didn’t produce has accepted a job with Harvard men’s basketball. I really want to make a crack here, but Harvard is a prestigious school sor for now I will let it go. If Amaker can improve Harvard (which is questionable that he can) then maybe they can take the dynasty away from the University of Pennsylvania in NCAA Tournament appearances.

Julian Wright Wake Up

Julian Wright
I personally feel you shouldn’t even be thinking about entering the NBA draft this year. I understand you haven’t hired an agent so your not completey out of your skull, but you are NOT ready for the big time. I’m not sure you will want to enter the drat next year after your junior season with the Kansas Jayhawks. Yes you are athletic and have some good skills, but you have a long way to go beyond the 12 pts and 7 rebounds you averaged this past year. I also know many agents are saying you could be a lottery pick, but I think you are one of those players whose stock can only go up. Please come back and quit trying to follow the steps of so many fallen players who couldn’t make the big step to the NBA.

College Basketball Coaching Carousel Update

Coaching Carousel

Dana Altman pulls a real weak move and backs out of the head coaching position with Arkansas and returns to Creighton after one day.  WTF???  This is super yellow bellied and no program should ever go after him again.

John Beilein does accept the position at Michigan and will earn $1.3 million a year.  His lawyers are working out the buy-out clause with West Virginia.

Jeff Bzdelik leaves Air Force and accepts the position at Colorado
