Angels Acquire Much Needed Pop

Mark Teixeira

The MLB trade deadline is fast approaching and outside of the Brewers acquiring Sabathia in what seems like months ago there hasn’t been many big trades to speak of overall. This has been the trend in recent years and unless something happens in the next day or so it will continue. That being said, I think the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pulled off a stellar deal yesterday with the injury riddled Atlanta Braves. The Angels picked up Mark Teixeira for hot young prospect Casey Kotchman and minor league pitcher Stephen Marek.

Many people are criticizing this deal because Teixeira’s contract will expire at the end of the season and the Angles won’t be able to resign him in the offseason yet they gave up a huge prospect. I say, who cares if you win a World Series! The Angels are arguably the best team in baseball, but definitely have some power issues with their lineup until now. Teixeira was the best bat available and the Angels went out and got the deal done. The Angels are now head and shoulders above the rest of MLB.

Man I Love Beer Pong

It’s a little over a month away from college football season which can only mean tailgaiting sports are just around the corner. Cornhole, poker, tossing football, throwing frisbee are all a blast, but in the end beer pong is the shizzle. Check out this video of two fine specimens battling it out in a game of beer pong. If this doesn’t get you charged up then I don’t know what to say.

Bobcats Get Something Right

Emeka Okafor

To date there have been so many question marks around a franchise due to very odd decisions, but today I feel they got something very right. The Charlotte Bobcats signed stud center Emeka Okafor to a 6 year $72 million dollar deal. Okafor is only 25 years old and over his NBA career has averaged 14.3 points and 10.8 rebounds a game. Emeka is not only baller he is an extremely intelligent good will individual that does a lot for the community. Charlotte needed to keep this dominant post player not only for his presence on the court, but even more for what he will do for the franchise and the city. Well done MJ! You finally made a great decision.

Dare We Say Keith Langston is En Fuego

En fuego

Keith “Mississippi” Langston started 6th this past weekend in the Pure Stock race at Orange County Speedway, but as usual it wasn’t long before his aggressive driving had him in first place. There were several thrills in the race where drivers were 2 and 3 wide which is s sight to see on such a small track. In the end Langston pulled off his third win in a row and fourth for the year. Sippi is running away now with the points race and is back at OCS this weekend looking to continue his dominance. All hail the king!

I can’t find an actual video clip anywhere for some reason, but I might like this Baseball Bunch rendition with Johnny Bench and the San Diego Chicken almost as much. Happy 25th George!

Avtio Atlanta and the NBA

Josh Childress

Josh Childress found a lot of cabbage today in Greece after signing a three-year $20 million deal with the Greek club team Olympiakos. Childress was a restricted agent, but an NBA team can’t match an offer made from a club overseas. This contract is now the biggest ever in Europe yet more than likely it will be topped soon because other players are going to want this pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The twist to the is story is that the Hawks were set to offer Childress close to $36 million, but in Greece Childress won’t have to pay any taxes and will be treated like an absolute king. Primoz Brezec, Carlos Delfino, Juan Carlos Navarro and Bostjan Nachbar are other NBA players that decided to play in Europe this offseason.

WNBA Mayhem

Rick Mahorn

Did anyone see the huge cat fight last night in the LA Sparks versus Detroit Shock game? Ok, what I’m thinking even asking such a ludicrous question. Since no one in their right mind saw the game last night you unfortunately missed quite a show at the end of the game. The Sparks beat the Shock 84-81, but the real excitement happened with seconds left when a fight broke out. Check out the video clip below for the footage and pay special attention to the part when the Sparks players gang up on bad boy Rick Mahorn. One of the ladies from the Sparks even takes a swing at the Detroit Shock assistant coach. I think the WNBA could be on to something with this new behavior, but that is just my twisted opinion.
