MLB Predictions Middle of August Update

Overall this MLB season has been pretty much what we expected entering the final 45 days of the year. There were a couple of pre-All Star Game surprises like the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cleveland Indians, but overall things have been pretty cut and dry.

Heading into the last few weeks of the year there are still 4 of 6 Divisions with winners still in doubt.  Philly with the best record in MLB is 7 games ahead of Atlanta who is 6 games ahead of 2010 World Series Champs San Fran in the Wild Card race. Today the Arizona Diamondbacks have a 69-53 record and have won their last 7 including beating Roy Halladay in the 9th.

Back in March my playoffs predictions included Oakland and Colorado which are both done, but the others are still solid contenders. My MVP’s are alive as both Ryan Braun and Robinson Cano are tearing it up.  As we gear up for football don’t forget the chase for the ultimate prize in October.

2011 Pre-Season Predictions

NL Central: Milwaukee

NL West: Colorado

NL Wild Card: Philadelphia

NL Pennant Winner: Colorado

NL MVP – Ryan Braun, NL Cy Young – Roy Halladay

AL East: Boston

AL Central: Detroit

AL West: LA Angels

AL Wild Card: Oakland

AL Pennant Winner: Boston

AL MVP – Robinson Cano, AL Cy Young – Jon Lester

World Series Winner: Boston

Deceased Man Might Win $150K on Tennis Wager

A gentleman named Nick Newlife, who died in February 2009, placed a little over $2300 in ’03 on the notion that Roger Federer would win seven Wimbledon titles before 2019. Federer won his first Grand Slam title in 2003. Newlife actually made a stipulation that his winnings should go to the charity organization Oxfam if he wasn’t around to cash in the ticket. The charity would earn over $156K if Fed wins at Wimbledon. Most oddsmakers have Federer at +225 with only Rafael Nadal ahead of him at +200.

Thank You T-Mobile

You’ve probably seen the T-Mobile 4G television spots recently if you have watched any of the NBA Playoffs. The ads ran quite a bit during college football and the NFL season and seem to be in high gear these days. The female whose beauty is ubiquitous is what makes the commercials so enjoyable. So who is she you ask? Who is the “T-Mobile Girl?”

Her name is Carly Foulkes and she’s done some modeling in her spare time over the years before landing her gig with T-Mobile. Here are a few pics of Carly Foulkes. Enjoy!

Helmet Cam Video from Valparaiso Cerro Abajo

Valparaiso Cerro Abajo is an urban downhill bike race through the very narrow and mountainous streets of Valparaiso, Chile. This video footage is actually from 2010, but man is it worth the watch. Anyone willing to take on this challenge is not only very skilled on a bike, but also severely damaged in the head. Enjoy the video and consider taking Dramamine before watching!

Karma is a B#*ch O.J.

Former NFL star and Heisman winner O.J. Simpson was recently beat down in prison per a report from the National Enquirer. Reportedly a skinhead at the Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center didn’t take kindly to O.J. bragging about his accomplishments with white women and decided to act out his frustration. O.J. was roughed up so bad that he was beaten unconscious and had to spend nearly three weeks in the infirmary in order to recover from his injuries. O.J. is allegedly so shook up he is afraid to leave his cell and is quite depressed. Simpson is spending at least nine years behind bars for his act in an armed confrontation with sports memorabilia dealers back in 2007. The next few years could be a living hell for O.J. and I think a lot of the population feels justice is being served.

Night Surfing to the Max

Australian surfer Mark Visser recently surfed Jaws a big wave surfing reef break off the coast of Maui. While that by itself is impressive due to the massive waves in the area Visser went surfing at 2 AM! This stunning feat was on a wave face almost 30 feet high and as you will see in the video it was basically pitch black. Visser had to surf completely off of feeling and said, “This was the scariest, but most exciting thing I have ever done.” Visser is currently shooting a documentary called “9 Lives” and this amazing adventure will be included in the movie.

Beer Cannon Bliss

By now we are all aware that the iPhone has transcended others in the mobile phone sector in recent years. A Virginia Tech graduate has taken it to another level by creating an iPhone-controlled beer-dispensing cannon. Thanks to this invention you no longer will need to get up from the couch during the game and take the chance of missing an important play. Check out the video and tell me this isn’t pure genius.

Beertastic!

There have been some excellent inventions throughout the years, but I think I might have come across the best one yet. This beer distribution machine somehow pours beer through the bottom of cups and fills up four of them in seconds. Forget fire, cars, condoms and even the internet. I salute you beer machine from the future!
