Rumors have been swirling since the beginning of the season that John Bunting would be fired as head coach of the North Carolina Tarheels football team and Sunday it was official. The Tar Heels are 1-6 after an embarassing 23-0 loss this past Thursday on national television to the Virginia Cavaliers and their only win is against Division 1-AA Furman. Athletic Director Dick Baddour announced Sunday that Bunting would be released at the end of the year. Bunting has a record of 25-42 in his six years with the Tar Heels so the writing was definitely on the wall for this to take place.

This week the award won’t be given to an individual because we have two teams in college football who decided they want the award way more than any individual. Saturday night the Miami Hurricanes and Florida International University broke into a melee for the record books. Thirteen players were ejected in total from the game and now at least 31 will be suspended for their next games after school officials were able to review the footage (link to video footage below). The penalties are not nearly strong enough for the actions these players took on the field. It was by far the worst display of behavior I have ever witnessed in a college football game. (Yes I am counting the South Carolina/Clemson brawl from a few years back)
On a side note Miami school officials are meeting today on the next steps for their football program. Could Larry Coker get fired even before the end of the season?

Call me silly, but I think Garrett Wolfe of Northern Illinois should be really looked at as a Heisman candidate. Yes he plays in the MAC and will only go to a small bowl game, but he is one college football stud! This past weekend he rushed for 353 yards and three touchdowns against Ball State. Wolfe already has 1,181 yards five games into the season. Let’s show some love this year to the mid-major playas!
There aren’t many coaches in NCAA football more on the hot seat right now than Chuck “The Chest” Amato of the NC State Wolfpack. I think this cartoon straight from the Raleigh News & Observer oozes how much hot water Amato is in these days in Raleigh.

Adam Sandler sure hit the nail on the head with his parody on kickers in football. These poor souls rarely are appreciated and generally are the arm pits of any football team. The song was geared more towards field goal kickers, but aren’t punters really the same thing? I think the story out of the University of Nothern Colorado says HELL YES THEY ARE. A backup punter for the university attacked and stabbed the starter of the team. Mitch Cozad was arrested and on a charge of second-degree assault and freed Wednesday on a $30,000 bond after his attack on starter Rafael Mendoza. This story in many ways straight chills me to the bones.
