Terrence Cody is Way Out of Shape

Remember six months ago when we commented on Terrence Cody’s physique Even though Cody appeared to be as unhealthy as you can possibly be the Baltimore Ravens selected the paunchy nose tackle from Alabama in the second round of the NFL Draft. Yesterday Cody failed a physical and the Ravens conditioning test so they placed him on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list. This news came just a couple of days after the fractured skull injury to defensive stud Sergio Kindle who was the Ravens first pick in the 2010 draft. These two rookies were expected to bring new blood to an aging defense, but for now they will not be part of the team at all.

UPDATE:
Cody was able to complete the conditioning test today on his third try after failing to pass it twice yesterday. Cody is now off the PUP list and can begin his “career” with Baltimore.

Celebration Curse

Celebratory injuries in baseball seem to be getting out of hand, but this one might take the cake…err pie. Marlins left fielder Chris Coghlan celebrated their 11th inning victory Sunday over the Braves by slamming a pie in the face of teammate Wes Helms who hit the walk-off single. Somehow Coghlan landed clumsily after the pie caper and is now on the DL for a torn meniscus in his knee. If it is determined that Coghlan needs surgery he could be out up to 8 weeks for being a total clutz. You couple this with Kendry Morales shattering his leg after a walk-off grand slam and UCLA second baseman Tyler Rahmatulla breaking his wrist after celebrating a Super Regional victory (both season ending injuries) and you have an issue that should probably be addressed.

MLB Bets of the Day – July 27th, 2010

Will Marvin Austin Be Suspended?

It is sounding more and more like Marvin Austin will be suspended for his entire senior year due to reported infractions with agents and other middlemen. While Austin is still currently on the team some leaks have indicated the next time Austin will be on a football field will be at the NFL combine and he might not be the only UNC football player in trouble. Other players recently interviewed by the NCAA were Deunta Williams, Bruce Carter, Quan Sturdivant, Kendric Burney and Greg Little who were grilled about the possibility of their interaction with agents and the NCAA has also requested phone records. With a lot of rumors swirling that money has also been exchanged this investigation could be a huge blow to a program that is on the rise and to a team that is one of the frontrunners for an ACC Championship this year.
