Boise State Pigs Out

The undefeated Boise State Broncos football team is very hungry for a win against the TCU Horned Frogs this evening in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl. They also are very hungry for meat and I mean lots and lots of it. The football team recently visited a Brazilian steakhouse in Scottsdale, Arizona named Fogo de Chao and they thoroughly took advantage of the all-you-can-eat offering. An employee of the steakhouse said there were over 125 members of the team in attendance and they devoured roughly 450 pounds of meat. TCU was supposed to eat at the same steakhouse a day or so later, but no word on the amount of meat the Horned Frogs consumed. It’s a good thing the two teams enjoyed those meals late last week because the meat sweats tend to slow you down and I know both teams want to be on their game tonight.

Happy New Year 2010

It’s hard to believe the Y2K craze is now a decade behind us, but time flies when you are having fun. I hope everyone has a happy and prosperous 2010.

2010 Winter Classic

So if you really need proof that the 2010 NHL Winter Classic is a hot commodity to hockey fans then you need to look no further than the current ticket prices on StubHub. The cheapest ticket on the site currently is $268 a ticket and will score you a piece of concrete in the Standing Room Only section in Fenway Park. A lot of talking heads have been stating that the Winter Classic has been losing recognition in respect to sports importance, but I think the ticket prices alone would say otherwise. Especially when you consider the Flyers are only 18-18-2 and Boston is only 5th right now in the Eastern Conference. The 2010 Winter Classic will be on NBC at 1:00 New Year’s Eve in direct competition with the New Year’s Day bowl games. Like it or not the NHL struck gold with the idea of outside hockey on New Year’s Day.

College Football Bet of the Day – December 28th, 2009

This evening Georgia takes on Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl. A lot of the trends point to this game going over tonight, but I’m going with the under. Good luck!

College Football Bet of the Day – December 24th, 2009

Tonight the SMU Mustangs take on the Nevada Wolfpack in the Hawaii Bowl. June Jones returns to Hawaii where he previously coached before taking over as head coach of the SMU Mustangs two years ago. Jones has done big things with SMU in a very short time span when you consider they hadn’t made a bowl game in the last 25 years and were 1-11 last year in his first year at SMU.

Nevada started off the season 0-3, but finished out the year with an 8-1 record and a shot at the WAC title, but came up short against Boise. Nevada has two key players missing in the backfield tonight so we think SMU gets under the line.

SMU +12.5

Dan Snyder Knows Business

We have been pretty hard on Dan Snyder in the past here at SU.com and once we even compared the Redskins owner to Kim Jong. The stats don’t lie that the team itself has been atrocious when you consider since Dannie took over the Skins in ’99, Washington has had only two winning seasons, a playoff victory and haven’t won more than 10 games in a season. Which means Snyder has to be considered one of the worst owners in all of the NFL, right? Well, there is another side to being an owner and Mr. Snyder does a stellar job in this area. The Skins earned $345 million in revenue just last season which is $25 million more than the New York Yankees. The franchise has nearly doubled in value since Snyder purchased the team for $800 million roughly a decade ago. They are now the third most valuable sports team in the world, behind Manchester United and America’s Team the Dallas Cowboys. Snyder may frustrate fans to no end, but if he could just step back and let someone else run the team he could be the most successful owner in professional sports.

NCAA Football Bet of the Day – December 22nd, 2009

Tonight there is an excellent matchup in the Las Vegas Bowl. We have #14 BYU and #15 Oregon State in theSU.com College Football Poll colliding in what should be a high-scoring affair. The over/under is set at 58.5 and there is a very strong chance this game will go over. While I like the over I’m going to take Oregon State -2.5 The Beavers were close to winning the PAC-10 title and they always play good in bowl games.

NFL Bet of the Day – December 19th, 2009

The Dallas Cowboys take on the undefeated New Orleans Saints tonight in the Superdome. The Cowboys have lost 2 of their last 3 games and continue to look bad during the month of December just like they have in recent years. The Saints remain undefeated, but have been given some scares recently from the Falcons and Redskins. I’m not sure if the pressure of being undefeated is getting to the Saints, but it sure seems like that is the case. Dallas needs a win really bad and while they probably won’t win this game I expect them to keep it close.

Cowboys +7.5

Tiger Woods New Endorsement Deals

Even though Tiger Woods is losing corporate sponsors almost everyday he is working hard on backfilling the ones he has lost. Nike is the main corporate sponsor that hasn’t left Tiger to date and quite frankly I don’t think they will due to how much money he has made the company overall. If you combine Nike and the other new deals below we think Tiger will continue to be the very well paid.
