NBA Playoffs Bet of the Day – April 27th, 2010

Dwayne Wade played out of his mind on Sunday and helped the Heat avoid what was looking like a sweep in the series by the Celtics. Tonight Boston comes home and they get it done. The favorite is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings between the two teams. Good luck!

Celtics -6

Changes Coming for Kentucky Derby?

The 136th Kentucky Derby is this Saturday with a post time of 6:24pm. A lot of the discussions this week are around whether or not this is the last time the race will be run during the day. Churchill Downs now has permanent lights installed at the track so the move to primetime seems almost inevitable. The Derby is one of the bigger sporting events of the year and if you can position the event to a larger television audience then why wouldn’t they make the plunge? The move would even make the event better for the actual spectators at the Derby because they could have a 20-race card and a few more mint juleps while waiting in anticipation for ‘the most exciting two minutes in sports.’

The Hawks didn’t even show up to play on Saturday in Milwaukee and the Bucks made them pay with an 18 point loss. Atlanta comes back tonight focused and slips by in a tight game.

The JaMarcus Project Might Be Over

I believe things are actually looking up in Oakland these days and it has been years since that was the case for the Raiders. All indications point to former overall #1 draft pick JaMarcus Russell getting released in the near future which really isn’t surprising considering he has been an gigantic bust. Russell held out in 2007 until after the season began before finally signing a $68 million contract that guaranteed him $31.5. JaMarcus has a career completion percentage of 52%, 18 touchdowns with 23 interceptions and was mercifully benched last year so Bruce Gradkowski could take over as the Raiders starting quarterback. Russell finished the 2009 campagin with the lowest completion percentage, fewest passing touchdowns, fewest passing yards and the lowest quarterback rating among qualifying quarterbacks in the NFL

A report from an inside source states Russell has now ballooned to 300 pounds which will more than likely be the final blow to his career in Oakland. The Raiders acquired Jason Campbell over the weekend and signed him to a one-year extension so they definitely feel he has potential to be their everyday starter. Couple that with the presence of Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye and Kyle Boller and you have to think JaMarcus is the odd man out.

Squeaked by with a win yesterday so heading into the weekend on a positive note. The Suns have dominated the injury plagued Trailblazers in the last two games and I think they get it done today. Good luck!

Are You Ready to be a Raider?

Earlier this week Roger Goodell came down hard on Ben Roethlisberger by suspending him for six games based on his actions a month ago at a nightclub in Georgia. The suspension can be trimmed down to four games if he can actually keep his junk in his pants for a few months and stay out of trouble. The Steelers also acquired former backup QB Byron Leftwich earlier this week even though they already had Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch on their roster. Finally, multiple outlets are reporting that Pittsburgh is calling teams with a top ten pick in the 2010 NFL Draft to gauge interest on a possible trade for Big Ben. To me there are just too many signals leading up to Roethlisberger getting shipped somewhere before the end of today.

So, where does he go? The Skins, Bucs and Lions more than likely aren’t interested in a quarterback because they have too many other gaps to fill. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Steelers brass has contacted the Rams, 49ers, Browns, Jags, Raiders, Bills and Seahawks and the only ones that said “no” were the Rams and Bills. The Jags need to sell tickets very bad and how can they market the disaster that is Ben? The Seahawks could be a possibility with two picks and the 49ers and Bills need a quarterback, but I suspect they will go young if they go that route at all in the first round. There is also an outside shot the Browns would make a play for Ben since he is from Ohio and they have seven draft picks, but I think Holmgren is too sharp to give up all the youth they are can acquire in return for Roethlisberger.

I think the best bet for a trade is with the Al Davis led Oakland Raiders. They are the only front office stupid enough to give up what the Steelers are more than likely asking for in exchange for their two-time Super Bowl champion QB. Most of the talking heads think Roethlisberger will end up staying, but I think there have been entirely too many leaks if they were truly planning on keeping him. Al Davis has repeatedly made splashes in recent drafts by making outlandish moves and he will not disappoint this year. There is basically zero support in Pittsburgh these days and while that can change with time Ben is currently a public relations nightmare and a black eye the Steelers organization doesn’t deserve. It is now time for the Steelers to give Big Ben what he deserves. Ship his a$$ off to Oakland where he will fit in quite well with all the other degenerates.

I have a gut feeling the Lakers take their foot off the accelerator this evening and the Oklahoma Thunder gets it done. The place will be rocking and rolling and Durant goes off. Good luck!

Tiny Has Changed His Mind

Just a few days ago Keith “Tiny” Gallon a center for the University of Oklahoma said he had full intentions of coming back to school next year for his sophomore year to play ball. Well, then news broke that Gallon received a $3,000 wire transfer from a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch that resulted in investigations being launched by the NCAA and Oklahoma. Quickly after the news broke “Tiny” decided to declare for the 2010 NBA Draft. I haven’t a clue what would have caused the sudden change of heart? The Oklahoma men’s basketball team could be in for more trouble and it hasn’t been that long since former head coach Kelvin Sampson left them hanging in a cloud of allegations.
