Scott Boras is up to his typical antics and this time it’s centered on his pending free agent client Prince Fielder. Boras and Fielder are looking for a $200 million contract this offseason which would make him the highest paid player in the bigs outside of Alex Rodriguez. I understand Prince is only 25-years old and was only behind Pujols in homeruns and OPS+ in the National League, but the man is the size of a sumo wrestler. He is 5’11 and is ‘listed’ at 270 pounds, but there isn’t a day since he was called up by the Brewers that he weighed 270. The weight issues may have not affected his weight yet, but it’s inevitable it will and it will start to happen sooner rather than later. His weight places a lot of strain on muscles and joints and over time it will lead to his body breaking down. Mo Vaughn and Cecil Fielder are two examples of large baseball players who were basically out of the league by the time they reached 30 and they were taller and weighed a lot less than Prince. I highly doubt in the end the Brewers will even be in the discussion of wanting to pay Prince a pile of money so they should just sit back and laugh when the Mets decide to sign him.
