Are You Ready to be a Raider?

Earlier this week Roger Goodell came down hard on Ben Roethlisberger by suspending him for six games based on his actions a month ago at a nightclub in Georgia. The suspension can be trimmed down to four games if he can actually keep his junk in his pants for a few months and stay out of trouble. The Steelers also acquired former backup QB Byron Leftwich earlier this week even though they already had Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch on their roster. Finally, multiple outlets are reporting that Pittsburgh is calling teams with a top ten pick in the 2010 NFL Draft to gauge interest on a possible trade for Big Ben. To me there are just too many signals leading up to Roethlisberger getting shipped somewhere before the end of today.

So, where does he go? The Skins, Bucs and Lions more than likely aren’t interested in a quarterback because they have too many other gaps to fill. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Steelers brass has contacted the Rams, 49ers, Browns, Jags, Raiders, Bills and Seahawks and the only ones that said “no” were the Rams and Bills. The Jags need to sell tickets very bad and how can they market the disaster that is Ben? The Seahawks could be a possibility with two picks and the 49ers and Bills need a quarterback, but I suspect they will go young if they go that route at all in the first round. There is also an outside shot the Browns would make a play for Ben since he is from Ohio and they have seven draft picks, but I think Holmgren is too sharp to give up all the youth they are can acquire in return for Roethlisberger.

I think the best bet for a trade is with the Al Davis led Oakland Raiders. They are the only front office stupid enough to give up what the Steelers are more than likely asking for in exchange for their two-time Super Bowl champion QB. Most of the talking heads think Roethlisberger will end up staying, but I think there have been entirely too many leaks if they were truly planning on keeping him. Al Davis has repeatedly made splashes in recent drafts by making outlandish moves and he will not disappoint this year. There is basically zero support in Pittsburgh these days and while that can change with time Ben is currently a public relations nightmare and a black eye the Steelers organization doesn’t deserve. It is now time for the Steelers to give Big Ben what he deserves. Ship his a$$ off to Oakland where he will fit in quite well with all the other degenerates.

Joey is Off the Hook

Four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter recently signed a $17.5 million dollar deal with the Arizona Cardinals that could potentially come close to $24.5 million if he is able to hit escalation clauses. Things couldn’t have been going better for Joey until he ran into a little issue late last week with the California Highway Patrol. Porter was arrested in Cali and was potentially facing three misdemeanors that included: assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and DUI. The CHP launched an investigation into accusations of Porter allegedly slapping an officer’s hand during the stop last week while he reportedly smelled like a brewery in a Taco Bell parking lot. Well, just when you think Joey could be in deep shihite news has been announced today that he won’t be charged with anything! Things that make you go hmmm.

The Jets Hard Knocks

New York Jets, come on down. You’re the next contestant on HBO’s hit TV series “Hard Knocks.” The show reports on the day-to-day routine of NFL teams during the very busy season of training camp and shows a lot behind-the-scenes action. Coach Rex Ryan, GM Mike Tannenbaum and owner Woody Johnson announced the exciting news today at their training facility in Florham Park, New York during a scheduled press conference. The upcoming season promises to be a interesting to watch taking into account the colorful comments coach Ryan will surely share along with Bart Scott who is one of the biggest s*$# talkers in the league. Pile on Darrelle Revis the best cornerback in the NFL, future Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson and rising star quarterback Mark Sanchez and you should have a very entertaining series. Typically NFL teams tank the season they are on the show, but last year the Bengals bucked the trend and made the NFL playoffs after participating in “Hard Knocks.” I know the Jets expect to do even more because they have aspirations of making it all the way to the Super Bowl this coming year.

Cromartie in a Crunch

Antonio Cromartie is without a doubt a talented cornerback, but is he really a good pickup for the New York Jets? Cromartie has had serious off the field issues with the San Diego Chargers in recent years and I think they were happy to see him go. He has seven kids with six different women living in five separate states, and he has been named in at least five paternity suits in just the past two years. Reportedly the Jets had to front Antonio a half-million dollars from his 2010 salary in order to help him address his looming paternity issues. Cromartie is set to make $1.7 million this year in the final year of his five-year deal and wasn’t supposed to start getting paid his annual salary until the first week of the regular season. That wasn’t going to work for Cromartie though because all his baby-mamas were due some serious cash and he needed to pony up. I don’t care how talented a player might be when you see this type of scenario playing out off the field you need to make a conscious decision to not bring the guy into your organization. Cromartie will probably be a good compliment to Reavis, but for how long and when will all the drama catch up with him?

Arizona Angst

Things haven’t been going so well for the Arizona Cardinals ever since their embarrassing loss to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional round of this year’s playoffs. Possible Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner retired and over the last few days the Cards have lost several key impact players to other teams. Anquan Boldin finally got his wish and was traded to the Baltimore Ravens while starting safety Antrel Rolle signed with the New York Giants and stud linebacker Karlos Dansby decided to become part of the Miami Dolphins. I know the Cardinals still have Larry Fitzgerald, Darnell Dockett along with some possible emerging stars in Beanie Wells and Steve Breaston, but they have taken a huge step back in recent weeks.

I think it is safe to say the Cardinals recent run is over and the door is now wide open for either the Seahawks or 49ers to step up and win the NFC West. Ken Whisenhunt is a good coach, but they have a lost a lot of talent and Matt Leinart simply isn’t the answer at quarterback.

Where Will LT Land?

One of the top 15 running backs in the history of the NFL is now a free agent after being released by the San Diego Chargers earlier in the week. LT turns 31 in June which is definitely on the downside of his career considering he really hit the wall a couple of years back. Tomlinson has been known as a breakaway back throughout his career, but those days are unfortunately gone it appears. I think there is potential for him to be a key player for a team like the New England Patriots who love to sign veterans and fold them into the mix. I also think the Saints are an excellent fit for Tomlinson considering he played with Drew Brees for several years and Brees even tweeted recently that he would love to have him in New Orleans. Once you start looking past these two teams the potential for other places to land seems a lot less realistic. LT has been a class act for his entire career and since he is still interested in playing next year I really hope he gets a chance.

Super Prop XLIV

Super Bowl weekend with the biggest game of the year is only 76 hours away which means prop bets are out and ready for wagering.

So when you go to your friends house for the once a year family football function, where going to work on the most called-in-sick day isn’t a priority, think about the little fun things that make this game a real spectacle.

The proposition bets are limitless in this game with anything from Manning total pass yards, first catch of game, FG attempts, how long will it take to sing the Star Spangled Banner, over/under how many times the camera will show a Kardashian which is currently set at 4 1/2.  These bets to me are so much more fun than having the Colts -6 or the over under. This is the time for picking squares and having some friend of a friend’s wife win the fourth quarter and final score and win a few hundy.  I mean c’mon, isn’t it always the person who isn’t as passionate as degenerates like me that wins these things? Yet we always have the glass 1/2 full view until about the end of the first quarter when you know they will never end with a 2 or a 5 as a score.

So might as well have some fun and get on the props like these lil diddies:

Score first TD = Collie +900, Meachum +1200

Manning Over 2 1/2 TDs = -125

First Offensive Holding Penalty = Scott Lilja +800

Matt Stover under 1 1/2 FGs = -105

and the standard for me every year.. Tails Never Fails!

New Orleans Saints Super Bowl XLIV Champs

That’s right, the Saints will be the champs if you believe in video game predictions. Each year EA Sports simulates the Super Bowl via Madden NFL and believe it or not the simulated winner has ultimately won five of the last six years. This year’s victor is the N’awlins Saints which is quite surprising when you consider most of the media is all over Peyton Manning’s johnson and the Colts. The only prediction Madden NFL missed in the last six years was the Giants victory over the Patties which was one of the bigger upsets in the history of the NFL.

The simulation has the Saints winning 35-31 with Drew Brees winning the MVP after throwing three touchdowns for 299 yards. Brees competition Peyton Manning has a typical Manning game also throwing for three touchdowns plus 322 yards

If this prediction comes true then Bourbon Street could truly experience the absolute biggest party ever held in the French Quarter.

ManCrunch Commercial Nixed

CBS has renounced a Super Bowl ad for a gay dating site called ManCrunch stating it wasn’t up to their “broadcast standards.” In a prepared statement the network said, “After reviewing the ad — which is entirely commercial in nature — our Standards and Practices department decided not to accept this particular spot.” They added that it “is not within the Network’s Broadcast Standards for Super Bowl Sunday.” I think the website should be thanking their lucky stars it was rejected because now they get to keep the $2+ million it costs to air a commercial during the Super Bowl while garnering all sorts of media attention. Here is the commercial in all its glory.

USC/Bengals Maualuga Faces DUI Charge

Here is a prime example of pure stupidity.  We always ask each other, “With all the money professional players make, why don’t they get a driver or at the very last get a taxi?”

Police in northern Kentucky have arrested Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga on charges of DUI and careless driving. Maualuga decided to test his slalom skills with a parking meter and two parked cars earlier this morning in his 2003 Pontiac.  A 2003 Pontiac? C’mon Rey a 2003 Pontiac? Did you purposively drive this hooptie because you knew you were going to get straight plowed and would end up wrecking your ride?

Maualuga was almost two times the legal limit and he is nursing a broken ankle that happened in Week 16 against the Chiefs. Now, for the final two questions. You are from southern California and your season is over so what in the blue hell are you are still doing in Kentucky? Duuuuude, WTF?
