What is the deal Calipari???

The whole Calipari saga began only five days ago, but it already feels like it has been going on for at least 3 months. Last Friday after Billy Gillispie was fired from Kentucky the rumors immediately started flying that Calipari and at that time Billy Donovan and Tom Izzo were the leading candidates to replace Gillispie. It wasn’t very long after those rumors that ESPN was reporting Calipari wasn’t interested in pursuing the Kentucky gig. Ok, done deal right? Now we can move on to Travis Ford or John Pelphrey as the leading candidate becuase there is no way Donovan was going down that road again and Izzo is the Don of East Lansing. Well, then on Sunday a lot of new reports started coming out that Calipari was interested in the job and had even met with Kentucky officials that Sunday. This lead to basically the crowning of Calipari as the new king of Kentucky on Monday with a reported offer of 8-years and $35 million smackeroos. Ok, done deal right? Well, it is now Tuesday and Calipari has been counter-offered by Memphis the same amount of money to stay put.

Let me help you make this decision John. You can now make the same amount of money and not have to deal with the whacko Kentucky fans who will turn on you in a heartbeat. You can stay in Conference USA and possibly not lose a conference game for the next ten years. You can build a program in Memphis that people will remember for many years to come and not have the likes of Pitino and Rupp hanging over your head. STAY IN MEMPHIS AND SAVE THE DRAMA! You won the battle by getting paid so now pull your name out of the Wildcat hat!

Seth Curry is a Dookie

Seth Curry has announced he is going to be transferring to Duke University. Seth is the little brother of All-American guard Stephen Curry who came to national prominence in last year’s NCAA tournament. Seth had a phenomenal freshman season this past year at Liberty University after averaging 20.2 points a game for the Flames. He was the leading scorer of all NCAA freshmen and it seems Seth felt it was time to take a step up to the big time. I have no doubt that under Coach K’s tutoring Seth will be a solid player, but we will just have to wait and see if he will even come close to Stephen’s talent. One thing you can count on is he will be jacking it up from the three point line because it seems that is all Duke wants to do these days.

James Posey Suspended

James Posey of the New Orleans Hornets was suspended for last night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs because he threw a ball at a NBA referee this past Friday. Posey was immediately ejected from the game this past Friday against the Knicks and I have to admit I’m surprised he didn’t get suspended for more than just one game. We all have wanted to throw a ball at a ref, but unlike Posey we had enough sense not to follow through.

College Basketball Bets of the Day – Sweet Sixteen Part One

No Love for Nate Davis

Former Ball State quarterback Nate Davis was left high and dry this past Friday at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Indiana. See the problem was last Friday was pro day for the early exiting quarterback and only one bleepin NFL team showed up. The sadder part of this story is the team that showed up was the Indianapolis Colts who are only a couple of hours down the road. Davis who once was a possible first day draft choice has seen his stock plummet over the last few months. I just shook my magic eight ball and “it is decidedly so” Davis will be a late round draft choice by the Lions or Raiders.

Wonderlic Test Results Are In…

You can officially announce Matthew Stafford as the number one pick in this year’s NFL draft. The Wonderlic test is given at the NFL combine each year and measures problem-solving ability. The test contains 50 questions with a 12-minute time limit and is rarely completed. The best score you can get on the test is 50 and if you score a 20 then you are said to be of average intelligence. Stafford scored the highest score on this year’s Wonderlic test of any other quarterback with an impressive 38. USC’s Mark Sanchez scored 28 and Kansas State’s Josh Freeman scored a 27. Other scores were Maryland cornerback Kevin Barnes with an astounding 41, Texas Tech’s Michael Crabtree with a 15, USC linebacker Rey Maualuga scored a 15, Maryland receiver Darius Heyward-Bey scored a 14, Percy Harvin of Florida scored a 12, and North Carolina’s Hakeem Nicks scored a 11 which is one above literacy.
