Its Friday! That Means a WAC Game is on TV

This is a Friday Nights Dream Play
Louisiana Tech at Nevada (-10.5) – Believe it or not this line opened at -6 and is now up to -10 1/2 so you do the math.
I am sure degenerates caught a glimpse of what Nevada is capable of doing during their total demolition of UNLV 63-28 last week in Vegas while running for 559 yards and generating 773 yards of offense even after losing 4 fumbles.
No BS on those stats so that is a crushing like you have never seen. When Nevada is on, they can score.

wac_featureNevada had 3 guys rush for more than 170 yards last week. There is no way Louisiana Tech with the 82nd ranked defense will stop them. La Tech gives up 186 yards per game on the ground allowing 4.23 yards per rush and lets teams convert 43% of their third down conversions against them. The Bulldogs will not stop a potent offense like Nevada that seems to have figured out what they couldnt get going at Notre Dame in the season opener.

And if you still dont believe me..

  • Wolf Pack are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games as a favorite of 10.5 or greater.
  • Wolf Pack are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games as a home favorite of 10.5 or greater.
  • Wolf Pack are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games as a home favorite.
  • Wolf Pack are 22-9 ATS in their last 31 home games.

LA. Tech is going on the road and will get blown out. Plain and simple.

Run, do not walk to the bookie because Nevada will cover and the Over 58.5 will fall as well!!
Plus I have a parlay which started yesterday with Nebraska riding with it as well so Go Pack!

Quick Pix for Saturday

Iowa State at Kansas (-19) – My Wagering team of the year is Kansas. They went 10-2 last year ATS and this year they are 3-1. Iowa State stinks. Kansas will roll.

TCU (-10) at Air Force – Lets see. You roll into Clemson and beat them. Why cant you do this at Air Force?  Give the points and take TCU

Kentucky at South Carolina (-9.5) – The best thing Kentucky has done this year was give the media Tim tebow talk 24/7. They have had their arse whooped at home 2 straight. South Carolina makes it 3 in a row. Give the -10 and USC

The MLB Playoffs are Finally Here

Does anyone know that the MLB Playoffs are here? Well, if anyone has paid attention the playoffs have in a way been going on since October 1st when you consider the AL Central is going into the 163rd game today to determine a division winner.  Ya, I know, who knew?

MLB has been almost as bad as the NHL when it comes to marketing their product. The AL Central and the NL West were up for grabs and what does MLB do? Absolutely nothing. Oh they had a game or two on ESPN, but with sweeps happening on prime time TV since October 1st there was no way to get on national TV other than on ESPN.

mlb_a_thumbsts_400

My biggest problem is Fox, who has the NLCS, currently has one show in the top 20 and their Saturday Baseball games have one of the worst ratings in years for their Saturday 4PM slot. Heck, even a golf tourney without Tiger does better than their snoozers. TBS which has most of all the playoff games has ZERO shows in the top 20.  Why wouldnt these stations add some of the last weeks action to their slots in order to get people pumped up for the playoffs?

It is a crying shame that America’s former pastime has fallen to where a Wednesday night Louisiana Tech versus Hawaii college football game gets more viewers than a primetime MLB game.

In any case here are my NLDS and ALDS predictions:

St. Louis beats the Dodgers in 3

Colorado beats Philly in 4

Angels beat Red Sox in 5

Twins beat Yankees in 4 or Yankees beat Tigers in 3

BCS Wagering Trends and Wagers

I have not added my selections for any game this year other than to provide analysis. Today I am starting my tips and trends for the rest of the 2009-10 BCS season.

Mississippi vs. South Carolina
Mississippi -4 Over 53.5

Big game tonight in the SEC. Ole Miss is ranked #4 in the country and their schedule is favorable for most of the season. This could be a very tough test for them, as Steve Spurrier is always at his best with the spotlight on him. Should be a great game tonight in Columbia.
give the points and take Mississippi -4

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin
Wisconsin -3

Wisconsin is a mere 3-point favorite at home over Michigan State, and this is clearly a soft line with the Spartans coming off back-to-back losses to Central Michigan and Notre Dame. The Badgers have been dominant at home. The Badgers have won 4 of their last 5 home games vs. Michigan State. After losing to the Spartans 24-25 on the road last year, you can bet this is a big revenge spot for Wisconsin players who have not forgotten that crushing defeat. The Badgers outrushed the Spartans 281-25 in that game, which are numbers that would usually lead to a Wisconsin victory. Expect similar ground numbers in 2009, only this time around it will be enough for Wisconsin to get their payback at Camp Randall Stadium. The Badgers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite of 0.5-3.0. The Badgers are 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. Wisconsin is quietly 3-0 and everyone is sleeping on this team. Take Wisconsin and lay the points.

UAB vs. Texas A&M
Texas A&M -15

football2
UAB (1-2) heads to Texas A&M (2-0) this Saturday for their second of back-to-back road games. Last Saturday, UAB lost 14-27 at Troy, while dropping to 2-13 S on the road under Head Coach Neil Calloway. While this is the first meeting between these two squads, UAB is a horrible 8-40 SU against BCS teams, including losing 10 straight by an average of 19 points per game. With that loss to Troy, UAB enters this Texas A&M battle on a 3-13 losing streak on the road against non-conference opponents. Texas A&M will be the toughest opponent UAB has faced up until this point in the season and we are laying the points with A&M at home, knowing that they are 4-0 SU & ATS against Conference USA opponents. A&M improves to 3-0 on the year and covers the spread, as we find them at 12-1 ATS as favorites of 27 points or less against a non-conference opponent coming off a double-digit loss. Play of the weekend Texas A&M -15

Tennessee vs. Ohio
Tennessee -21

Take the Tennessee Volunteers ATS, I do not look for a let down from this Vols team that had a chance to upset Florida last week instead I look for them to dominate this Ohio Bobcats team Saturday. The Vols defense is extremely solid with opponents averaging just 197.3 yard per game against them this season and only 16.3 ppg. The Vols have had to play a lot tougher teams than the Bobcats so far this season and yet the Bobcats numbers are not good at all offensively averaging just 103.3 rypg and just 303 total yards per game this season. The Bobcats will not be able to move the ball against this Vols defense and the Vols offense will be able to score at will so I look for Tennessee to cover by at least 4 touchdowns Saturday. The Vols are a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after they have allow more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and the Bobcats are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 170 passing yards in their previous game. The Bobcats depend on moving the ball through the air but the Vols defense has only allowed 88.3 pypg this season including just 115 passing yards against #1 Florida last week. Take the Tennessee Volunteers and lay the 21

Has Fishing Gone BALCO?

In our current days of PED’s, the Clear and steroids could it be that even fishing has followed in the infamous steps of Barry Bonds and A-Rod? On September 5th, a Saskatchewan fisherman named Sean Konrad caught a 48-pound, world-record rainbow trout from Lake Diefenbaker. The problem is Lake Diefenbaker houses trout that were genetically engineered to grow extra-big and escaped from a fish farm nine years ago.

konradrecordrainbow580-350

The previous world record was also caught from Lake Diefenbaker in 2007. Coincidentally the fisherman that caught the 43 pound, 10-ounce trout was none other than Sean’s twin brother Adam. Sean’s fish sparked major debate over the legitimacy of genetically-engineered rainbows from Lake Diefenbaker. The farm-born trout’s are also known as triploids. Triploids are created with three sets of chromosomes which make the fish sterile and allows them to channel their energies towards growth rather than reproducing.

The fishing purists are all up in arms over this issue and word is they won’t be voting either of the brothers for the Hall of Fame.

Greatness Turns to Bitterness

If you saw the NBA Hall Of Fame induction ceremony last night you arguably witnessed the best class ever to be inducted at one time. You had the classiest of class Jerry Sloan, David Robinson, John Stockton and C. Vivian Stringer receiving their accolades and induction into the Hall of Fame. All the while the drama of this 3 hour celebration was building up to when they announced, “the Greatest of all time” Michael Jordan.

jordan

Here is where a celebration went off the rails and turned into Michael’s personal diatribe. Not that he schooled everyone on the court, won rings and MVP’s and became the top money earner for endorsements ever. He decided to let the world know he was mad and he wasn’t going to take it anymore.

He started off by going after the coach who cut him from the varsity as a North Carolina schoolboy and even brought in the man Leroy Smith who made the team just to call him out.

Jordan then proceeded to call out Isiah Thomas, who allegedly orchestrated a “freeze out” of Jordan in his first All-Star game. He stated in his speech, “I wanted to prove to you, Magic [Johnson], Larry [Bird], George [Gervin], everybody that I deserved [to be there] just as much as anybody else, and I hope over the period of my career I’ve done that without a doubt.”

He then transitioned into bringing in old Knicks head coach Jeff Van Gundy and Jordan called him, Pat Riley’s “little guy,” who accused Jordan of “conning” players by acting friendly toward them, then attacking them in games.

Jerry Krause was not there because he was boycotting Tex Winter not being inducted, so he says, but Michael took a dig at him while thanking the ownership past and present and saying, “Jerry Krause, uhem, I know I didn’t invite him here.”

Lastly, Utah’s Bryon Russell was on Jordan’s list. Jordan recalled meeting Russell while he was retired and playing minor league baseball in 1994. Michael spoke of how Russell insisted he could have covered him if Jordan was still playing which obviously bothered the greatest of all time. Russell later in his career got two cracks at Jordan in the NBA finals and he was the defender when Jordan hit the clinching shot to win the 1998 title which Jordan said he relished this even today.

On a side note Michael, why not start off your speech by acknowledging your former business partner from the Charlotte Bobcats who had just died in a plane crash earlier that day. I thought for the “Greatest of All Time” it might go down as “One of the Worst All Time” speeches.

30 hours and counting….

43 years ago Steve Spurrier was the quarterback for the Florida Gators when they came to Raleigh to play the Wolfpack in the second game every played in Carter Finley Stadium. The Wolfpack at one point led the #8 Gators 10-3 in the second half, but ended up losing 17-10. Spurrier leads his Gamecocks back into Carter Finley Stadium tomorrow night to play NC State in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPN to kick of the college football season. Spurrier, Erin Andrews and college football is about all you can ask for, right?

PAC 10 is Now Open for a New King!

Extra! Extra! USC doesn’t win the Pac 10 this year.

The USC Trojans are once again the big favorite to win the Pac 10 and hold claim to an eighth consecutive league title. There have been a few close calls, but all in all USC has pretty much been the big bully of the PAC 10. Even with new coordinators and a freshman QB leading the team it seems almost every credible media head likes USC to bring it home.

Not so fast my friend!

Finally a rough schedule, freshman QB, suspect D and their top receiver on the shelf for the first 6-8 weeks means they are due for rebuilding, but not a whole lot of it.

Oregon and California enter this season of flux as the two primary candidates to take down the mighty Trojans. Cal has loads of talent and arguably the best running back in the nation in Jahvid Best. Jeff Tedford is an outstanding coach and if he can coach up quarterback Kevin Riley this could be the Bears year. The Ducks have a new head coach in Chip Kelly, but he was the offensive coordinator last year for Oregon and one of the most potent offenses in the nation. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is very special and if the retooled offensive line can gel then the Ducks could even be more explosive than last year.

Things drop off a bit after the big three, but there are still some programs to keep an eye on this season. Oregon State led by head coach Mike Riley consistently has a tough defense and Jacquizz and James Rogers is a powerful combo in the backfield. Arizona started to turn things around finally last year and will look to take another step ahead with this year’s squad. Rick Neuheisel brings legitimacy back to UCLA and if he can only find some offense the Bruins should do well with All-American candidates Alterraun Verner, Brian Price, and Reggie Carter on the defensive side of the ball. The Stanford Cardinal has been improving during the two years under Jim Harbaugh and they have aspirations of going bowling this year for the first time in EIGHT years. Arizona State is on the decline and probably won’t be much of a force in the overall scheme of things this year.

Washington State and Washington appear to be the two basement teams this year, but look for the Huskies to improve on their 0-12 season from last year. Quarterback Jake Locker is back and former USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is now the head coach for Washington.

Below is a short list of players to keep your eyes on this year in the PAC 10.
FS Taylor Mays, Sr. USC
RB Jahvid Best, Jr. Cal
DT Brian Price, Jr. UCLA
RB LeGarrette Blount, Sr. Oregon
TE Rob Gronkowski, Jr. Arizona
RB Jacquizz Rodgers, Soph. Oregon St
QB Jeremiah Masoli, Jr. Oregon
DE Dexter Davis, Sr. Arizona State
CB Alterraun Verner, Sr. UCLA
QB Jake Locker, Jr. Washington
RB Tony Gerhart, Sr. Stanford
CB Walter Thurmond, Sr. Oregon

Surprise Team

Stanford – Jim Harbaugh has lifted this team to new heights during his first two years as head coach of the Cardinal. Stanford will make a bowl game this year after looking like it had a chance last year until fading over the last month of the season. Recruiting is dramatically improved and Stanford seems ready to make some noise again in the PAC 10.

Disappointing Team

USC – Too many new faces on the field and on the sidelines makes this USC team just a good team, but not a great team. Look for a 9-3 season which for most programs is fantastic, but in SoCal it is below par without a doubt. Oh and a loss to UCLA and Notre Dame will happen this year.

Game of the Year

Boise State at Oregon. What a way to start the college football season. This game on the opening night of the season is huge for both programs. Whoever wins this game grabs an upper hand in either of their BCS chances and its only week 1! If Boise wins they may run the table due to the lack of strength overall in the WAC. If Oregon wins they are Top 10 in the polls the next week with tons of confidence as well.
jBest

Bottom Line – The Pac 10 is coming off a 5-0 bowl season and is slowly getting some respect as a conference to be held in the top 3-5 BCS conferences in college football. Considering the sputtering of the Big 10 and Big East that is a safe assumption to make. So who will be the team to take down USC this year? Cal finally breaks through this year in the PAC 10. The best running back in the country with a Tedford led offense that always scores points in conjunction with a strong defense lends itself to a 10-2 record at worst. This time they won’t lose to a 1-8 team at home when they have an opportunity to claim a Top 3 spot in the polls like they did 3 years ago against Oregon State.

After opening up at home against Maryland, with an axe to grind for their loss last year, they play Eastern Washington at home and then travel to Minnesota before their PAC 10 opener at Oregon. Cal has USC on Homecoming Oct 3rd a week after they play at Oregon so they can take control of the conference before they take a week off after USC before heading to UCLA.

The PAC 10 has USC, Oregon, an improved Oregon State, 2nd year Neuheisel/Chow combo at UCLA, a resurgent Stanford all waiting for their chance to shine this year. Rest assured they will, but with a huge bull’s eye on USC, Cal will be the team with a favorable home schedule who will walk away with a Pac 10 crown and a trip to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 51 years.

What Are You Thinking FOX?

This falls under the category of “WTF?”

Most males are really jonesing for ‘real’ football games to begin because the preseason can be a tad bit boring after the first half of a given game. Fox had a real opportunity to broadcast and most likely get the biggest rating ever for a preseason game if they would have aired Philly versus Jacksonville tonight.

Why? Because we could have watched Mike Vick straight from Leavenworth Penal League play some professional football once again. fox-sports-network-logo

But NO! Rupert Murdoch and the execs at FOX have decided to air the horrible Miami versus Tampa Bay bore fest. They have had plenty of time to make a change and it wouldn’t impact anybody in south Florida if they prefer to watch the Fins versus Bucs so this is a real head scratcher.

Way to go FOX.
