NBA Bets of the Day – April 26th, 2009

Break out the broom in Detroit today because the Cavs will close out that series with ease. The Pistons mailed it in many weeks ago and King James and the Cavs seem to be on a crash course to the NBA Finals. Rockets also cover tonight at home to make that series 3-1 Houston.

Cavs -8.5
Rockets -4.5

Overall Record:

NBA 34-23
MLB 25-16-1
NHL 0-1
College Football: 106-92-1
NFL 103-72-5
College Basketball 197-149-6

Greg Paulus Is Confused

We always thought Paulus was a Dookie tride and true, but in the last few weeks he has made us think differently. First we got word Paulus was going to join the Michigan Wolverines football team and then it appeared he might go to Syracuse instead to play quarterback. Now comes this picture where it appears Paulus is rocking a hated Tarheels shirt and posing for photos? The baby doesn’t seem to be amused by Paulus’s mysterious ways.

NBA Bets of the Day – April 25th, 2009

I really like the Heat tonight at home after the way Dwayne Wade and the gang played in Game 2 versus Atlanta. I also like the Lakers to rebound from a disappointing loss in Game 3 to the Jazz.

Heat -4
Lakers -4

NBA 32-23
MLB 25-16-1

Liverpool and Arsenal Explode

Tuesday, April 21st

The Premiership (EPL):

What it is:  England’s topflight, domestic, club football (soccer) league.

Arsenal v. Liverpool: Goals Galore

If any of you enjoy lots of goals in football matches, as I do, then you’d have loved Tuesday’s clash between Liverpool and Arsenal.  It was a terrific game, a real cracker.

After Andre Arshavin’s lone first half goal in the 36th minute put Arsenal ahead, things settled down with Liverpool having several close but unsuccessful first half opportunities.

It was in the second half, however, when the two teams exploded for a combined seven goals.  Liverpool scored on a sweet header from Spanish wunderkind, Fernando Torres, in the 49th minute and an outstanding hustle goal by, Israeli, Yossi Benayoun in the 56th putting Liverpool up 2-1.

Miscommunication and sloppy play between Liverpool defenders Jamie Carragher and Alvaro Arbeloa gifted Arshavin another opportunity in the 67th, and the talented Russian made Liverpool pay.  Score: 2-2.

More sloppy defensive play from Liverpool in the 70th minute saw Arshavin score his third goal after Arbeloa played a left-wing cross straight to Arshavin 10 yards from goal.  The Russian made his hat-trick as he drilled the shot under Liverpool keeper, Pepe Reina.  Arsenal leads 3-2.

Remarkably, Liverpool was level again two minutes later when Torres fired a low shot past Arsenal keeper, Fabianski. Score: 3-3.

Most thought Arsenal surely secured the game when Theo Walcott’s pace on the counterattack played Arshavin in for his fourth goal.  You read that correctly: four goals.  Remarkable!   Arshavin 4, Liverpool 3.

Astonishingly, Benayoun pushed in an equalizer at the death to salvage the tie for Liverpool.  Final score: 4-4.

Commentary:

Several things stand out in this game, most notably Arshavin’s four goals, an impressive scoring display by the young Russian.  Unfortunately, Arshavin is cup tied and unavailable to play for Arsenal as they move into the semifinals of the Champions League, the competition between the best teams from each of Europe’s top domestic leagues.

Liverpool scores at least four goals for the seventh time this year, including four goals in six of their last nine games.  Liverpool currently leads the Premier League with 63 goals scored this season.  It’s nice to see The Reds scoring goals in bunches for a change.

Liverpool’s slim chances of overtaking Manchester United as the Premiership’s top dog became even more stretched following the tie with Arsenal.  While the single point from the tie with Arsenal puts Liverpool top of the table by one point, this perch should be short-lived.  United is a single point behind Liverpool with two games in hand.  Barring a surprising collapse from United, the domestic league championship is now United’s to lose.

NBA Bets of the Day – April 22nd, 2009

I was very confident about the Cavs last night and for awhile it looked like the lock of the century. In the end they only covered by one and unfortunately Portland couldn’t quite get over the hump, but they did win. I like my two picks for tonight so follow if you feel the same.

Nuggets -5.5
Hawks/Heat under 184

Overall Record:

NBA 31-22
MLB 25-16-1

The ‘Natinals’ spell as bad as they play

The Washington Nationals seriously suck. Everyone of you know that, but apparently the vortex of suck in DC has also grabbed a hold of the Nationals’ uniforms as well.

Last week, during the Nats’ brutal extra inning loss to the Marlins Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman were seen sporting “Natinals” jerseys.

How exactly does something this stupid happen to a semi pro baseball team? I have no idea, but I tell you what, it makes perfect sense that this happened to the Nationals.

RBI Themed MLB Video

Now there have been some awesome baseball video games created over the years, but has there been any better than R.B.I. Baseball from Nintendo? Now I totally appreciate the games of today have better graphics along with a lot more bells and whistles, but to me it still doesn’t get any better than this classic 1987 NES game. Check out this video montage of former MLB stars backed by a hip-hop song with a RBI twist.

NBA Bets of the Day – April 21st, 2009

I have to say I would even take the Cavs if they were favored by 15 tonight at home against the Pistons. Detroit is flat out “turrable” and they mailed it in weeks ago. I’m not as confident about the Blazers, but if they don’t want to get swept a win tonight is a must. Happy gambling!

Cleveland Cavaliers

Cavaliers -11
Blazers -5.5

Boston Marathon Breaking News….

an Ethiopian won the Mens and Womens divisions of the Boston Marathon. Now we aren’t 100% positive if this is the first time this has happened or not, but it does seem odd.

Keith Langston Continues Winning Ways

Keith Langston started on the pole this past Saturday April 18th for the twenty lap Pure Stock race at Orange County Speedway. Langston got off to a good start, but not the same thing can be said for his other competitors. Langston rolled out to about a 7 or 8 car length lead early in the race on the next closest racer Thomas Penny. Then on lap 7 there was caution on the track for debris and after lap 10 Langston was still in the lead with Thomas Penny in second, Chase Sandefur in third, Tony Ivey in fourth and Thomas Chappell in fifth. Thomas Penny made a big push for “Mississippi” Langston towards the latter part of the race and even went side by side for a lap or so with Langston riding the high line as usual. In the end when the white flag flew it was Langston grabbing the victory and another trophy for the memorabilia room. Langston finished first with Thomas Penny in second, and Sandefur winding up in third. Langston won the season long point’s race in ’08 and it sure looks like he hasn’t missed a bit after the first race of this year.
