Yost Yanked

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers made a move today that leaves me scratching my head with wonder. There is only 12 games left in the season yet Brewers brass decided to fire manager Ned Yost today. I completely understand the Brewers have lost 7 of their last 8 games and I get Milwaukee tanked at the end of last year, but does it make sense to pull the plug this late in the season? Milwaukee hasn’t made the playoffs since 1982 so that has to be one of the major factors in the decision process to let Yost go and promote third base coach Dale Sveum to acting manager. The Brewers are tied with the Phillies in the Wild Card standings so we will know in two weeks if this was the right decision.

Beanie’s Out

Beanie Wells

Arguably Ohio State’s most important player Chris “Beanie” Wells has been deemed unable to play tonight in the biggest game of the young college football season against USC. Wells has been questionable at best for the last two weeks after injuring his toe two weeks ago against Youngstown State. This is a huge blow to Ohio State’s offense and opens the door for freshman quarterback Terrell Prior to see more action because it’s a must that Ohio State have playmakers in the game against the impressive USC defense. The line opened up at USC -7 and now that Wells is out some sportsbooks have the Trojans as a -13 favorite. Does Ohio State have a chance?

You’re Not #1 Rutgers

As you know we called the UNC/Rutgers game last night, but we couldn’t have predicted the Tarholes would thump Rutgers that bad. In the end Rutgers was left embarrassed on National TV after losing 44-12 to North Carolina. I wonder if Schiano is still happy with his decision to stay on as coach for the University of New Jersey rather than going to Miami or Michigan? Any who, check out this video clip of how a Rutgers fan felt about being on a ESPN camera after a Mike Teel interception. Classy!

NCAA Football Bet of the Day – September 11th

UNC football cheerleader

Take UNC and +6 tonight at Rutgers. I know UNC struggled at home against McNeese State a couple of weeks ago plus the ACC stinks, but I’m just not feeling Rutgers tonight.

NFL 64-33-3
College Football: 44-41-1
MLB 20-10

Sylvester Set to Receive Statue in South Bend

Sylvester

Lou “Sylvester” Holtz will be in South Bend this Saturday for Notre Dame’s game against the Michigan Wolverines. Lou is being honored with a statue in honor of the National Championship he led the Irish to win 20 years ago. The team went 12-0 by kicking off the season with a 19-17 victory over #9 Michigan, slipping by #1 Miami 31-30, whooping #2 USC 27-10 and then capturing the title with a 34-21 win over Major Harris and #3 West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl. I don’t blame Notre Dame for throwing a party to remember the ’88 National Title because it will probably be the last one they win until 2088.

Pure Random Thought of the Day

I’m watching the Devil Rays play the Red Sox in the bottom of the 7th in a 1-1 tie with Tampa Bay 1 1/2 games up in the AL East and all I can think about is how much Peter Gammons reminds me of a Fraggle. Am I Wrong?
