Appalachian State Shocks Michigan and the Nation

Appalachian State Mountaineers upset the Michigan Wolverines

Being that I’m a proud graduate of Applachian State University it makes what happened yesterday afternoon in Ann Arbor, Michigan even that much sweeter. The Mountaineers battled the entire game against super heavyweight Michigan in the Big House and had to block two field goals in the last four minutes with the last one coming under 10 seconds left in the game to win 34-32. Many people might not know the Happy Appies are back-to-back Division 1-AA champions with high expectations of going for the trifecta, but this monumental upset could never have been expected. No 1-AA college football team has ever beaten a ranked opponent and keep in mind Michigan was ranked FIFTH in the country and one of a hand full of teams expected to battle for a BCS Championship. Goodbye BCS Championship aspirations Michigan and hello invitation to move up to Divison 1 Appalachian State.
