Roger Goodell

The NFL announced today that the Patriots versus the Giants on Saturday night will be simulcast on NBC and CBS in conjunction with the NFL Network! The game was originally slated for the NFL Network only which doesn’t have as many viewers as ‘Leave it to Beaver’ on Nick at Nite. The NFL Network is in ongoing battles with cable companies demanding the station becomes part of regular cable which would in turn cost the consumers more money. This however is a generous move by Goodell and the NFL and one that is very much appreciated.

Ricky Applies for Reinstatement

NFL

Ricky Williams

Ricky Williams has applied for reinstatement to the NFL based on his agent Leigh Steinberg. Williams has particpated in only twelve games since the start of the 2004 season due to four different violations of the NFL drug policy. The league and Roger Goodell now have roughly 60 days to make a decision on whether they will reinstate Ricky to the NFL. Ricky is currently under contract with the Dolphins, but Coach Cameron has announced he will not comment at this time. We would like to predict if…and that is a big if…Goodell reinstates Williams the 0-4 Dolphins will keep Williams under contract. This running back hasn’t had much wear and tear in the last two years and with all his yoga classes he has to be in good shape.

Justice

I ranted yesterday about the classless way Bill Belichick handled the fact he got caught cheating against the New York Jets this past weekend. Today Roger Goodell responded that no one will break the rules under his watch with his ruling on this situation. Belichick was fined $500k (I F’in love it) and the Patriots were fined $250k for taping the New York Jets sideline. While the $250k does nothing to the Patriots bank account the half a mizzil hits the wallet of Belichick who deserves the smackdown anyway. The Patriots will also lose a first round pick if they make the playoffs (highly likely) and a second and third round pick if they don’t. I’m personally done with this topic now because Goodell is the man and handled this situation properly.

Michael Vick

Roger Goodell informed Michael Vick today to not even bother reporting to training camp this week. How long is it until the NFL orders Vick to sit out the whole year? In my mind there is no way he sets foot on the field this year due to all the distractions surrounding him. Plus just think in roughly a year or so the main distractions he will have is who is taking care of his money and most importantly DON’T DROP THE SOAP!

Pacman Jones to Training Camp?

NFL

Pacman Jones

Word has come out today that the NFL may let Pacman Jones come to training camp next week. This has to be the silliest thing I have since the Detroit Lions made Corey Redding the highest paid DT in the league. Why in the blue hell would the Tennessee Titans want that three ring circus at their camp? I have to think when Roger Goodell returns from vacation this will get squashed or the Titans will wake up…RIGHT?

Tank Johnson

Tank Johnson has been suspended for the first eight games of this coming season. Roger Goodell continues to show the players of the NFL he isn’t messing around with the zero tolerance policy. Tank had all sorts of off-the-filed issues in recent months and will now pay for his gun fetish. We are normally hard on athletes who screw up here at SportsUnderground.com, but I don’t think Tank is a bad guy. Its more of a case of making bad decisions and based on his comments in recent weeks he has learned his lesson. Prove us right Tank! :-)

Pacman Jones

Each of our SportsUnderground peeps know how much we despise “King Thug” Adam Pacman Jones and it appears the NFL commissioner has had enough too. Goodell suspended Pacman for an entire year and Jones will have to apply for reinstatement at the end of the year. This will cost Pacman $1,292,500 which is his base salary with the Tennessee Titans or in Pacman’s terms an a$$ load of “making it rain” outings. This was a crucial step taken by Goodell and the NFL and hopefully will set the precedent to the other players it’s time to straighten up. Check out the previous posts linked  below to understand our feelings of Whackman Pacman.

Pacman “Joke” Jones

In other hood rat news Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengals was suspended for the first eight games of the coming season for his legal issues over the last year. He will also have to apply for reinstatement at the end of his suspension.

You can count of both of these guys appealing these suspensions, but lets hope the NFL doesn’t fold.
