General Sports
  • Former McDonald’s All American Eric Boateng is transferring from Duke to Arizona State. This is a huge first get for Herb Sendek, who also transferred from the ACC (NC State) to Arizona State a little over a month ago.
  • Hey Rasheed, did you mean TONIGHT’s game when you guaranteed a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers? Nah, I didn’t think so.
  • Former Virginia Tech QB and general troublemaker/finder Marcus Vick has signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins. What the heck would make the Dolphins, already burned by Ricky Williams, take another chance on someone like this? I know everyone deserves a second chance, but with Vick, we’re on, like…….6 or 7!
  • Doug Flutie, 21 year veteran of professional football, is calling it quits. This is probably the first time in Flutie’s career that he actually has decided to quit. The ultimate warrior, he often overachieved and outperformed all the expectations people put on an undersized QB. He was never a superstar, or earned mega-money, but he holds a special place in all football fans hearts. Congrats on finishing one career, and starting another. Flute: An all around good guy.
  • Reggie Bush may be having an MRI on his hamstring and hasn’t been active yet in camps, but he has his mind set on being in camp on time and has told his agent specifically, NO HOLDOUTS. And I for one would like to add, AMEN!

Athletes and Drugs

NBA

Cliff RobinsonWhat the heck is it with athletes these days? We have already discussed, probably too much, the tale of Ricky Williams, who was busted during the offseason. But how about a dummy who can’t keep himself clean during the freaking PLAYOFFS?!?!?! Cliff Robinson, who I swear is old enough to know better, got caught violating the NBA substance abuse policy. So instead of helping his team defend Shaq and the Miami Heat, he will guarding against the munchies at 3am. Way to go! If anyone has a logical explanation, other than “Dude, he’s like, free to do whatever he wants maaaaan…”, I’d love to hear it!

NFL

So Ricky Williams wants to play for the Toronto Argonauts. We’ve talked about that already. But if Ricky ever wants to get back in the NFL, he is going to have to participate in the league’s substance abuse program, meaning he could be tested up to 10 times a month. Great. However, Ricky wasn’t planning on having to take drug tests for the CFL too. That is apparently being considered if the Miami Dolphins agree to letting Williams play in the CFL this season. You know what, no matter how many times you test him, the results will always be the same. Ricky will always be a wasted talent, who can’t control himself, and will ultimately, sadly, self-destruct.

Legal In Canada?

NFL

Reports are that the Toronto Argonauts are interested in Ricky Williams and have placed him on their negotiations list. The CFL has a history of bringing in players with off the field troubles and are not currently able or available to play in the NFL. Recent examples of these types of players include Andre Rison (who was one of my favorite players growing up, but that’s neither here nor there) and Lawrence Philips. One performed well, and the other didn’t. Wanna guess which one? With a minimum base salary of $39,000, it is speculated that Williams could command anywhere from $70-150,000. Still a good salary for someone like me, but a far cry from an NFL paycheck. Question is, will he have to find a new bag man?

How Stupid is Ricky Williams?

NFL

That’s all. That’s all I want to know. How stupid can one person be? Dumb, dense, stupid, ignorant, etc…you name your adjective.
