James Posey

The New Orleans Hornets were seconds away from the Western Conference Finals this past season and definitely was one of the most improved teams in the NBA outside of the World Champion Boston Celtics. Well, the Hornets took a big step today in further improving their squad with the signing of unrestricted free agent small forward James Posey. Posey won a ring with the Celtics this past season and also won one in 2006 with the Miami Heat so he has excellent playoff experience. The Hornets and Posey agreed to a 4-year deal worth close to 25 million dollars today after reports Boston was only willing to extend a two to three year deal. Hat tip to Hornets management for picking up such a key player to come off the bench.

Kobe MVP Rant

General Sports NBA

Kobe Bryant

I have heard a lot of chatter from sports heads today stating that if the NBA Playoffs counted Chris Paul would have been announced as the NBA MVP rather than Kobe Bryant. I personally think that is absolute farce because Kobe is hands down the most valuable player. I must say though that I don’t want to take anything away from Chris Paul because he is flat out amazing and is definitely one of the top three players in NBA in only his second year in the pros. Now on to the best player in the NBA which is Kobe Bryant. Kobe is averaging 34.4 points per game during the playoffs yet Paul averages 24.3. Ten whole more points??? Kobe outscored Paul by seven in the regular season and also finished in the top 50 in the NBA in almost every major statistical category during the regular season. Lets also not forget it came down to the Los Angeles Lakers or the New Orleans Hornets for the number one spot in the West and the Lakers went 7-1 during April while the Hornets went 6-4. The Lakers also won against New Orleans on April 11th led by Kobe’s 29 points and eight assists. During this crunch stretch a true MVP steps up and leads his team to the graceland. That along with being hands down the best basketball in the NBA since Michael Jordan is why no matter when the vote would have taken place this year you were going to be the MVP.

New Orleans is the NBA’s Best

NBA

New Orleans Hornets

I really thought these words would never be uttered from my mouth, but to be honest they probably won’t be again so it’s all good. The New Orleans Hornets are currently 4-0 in the NBA and they have the best record (technically) in the NBA. Sacramento, Portland, Denver and the Lakers have all fallen to the mighty Hornets this season with the Blazers up again this evening in Portland. Stojakovic, Chris Paul, David West, Tyson Chandler and Rasaul Butler are all averaging double digits in points for New Orleans so whether they are actually the best (wink, wink) this should be a team we see in the playoffs this year.

Yahoo New Orleans!

NBA

In a great move by the NBA the city of New Orleans was awarded the 2008 NBA All Star game. It is my personal opinion that more of these moves should be made to bring serious dollars back to a city devastated by Mother Nature. This also indicates that the New Orleans..excuse me Oklahoma City…I mean New Orleans Hornets more than likely will not be leaving the Big Easy. It would be almost unheard of for the NBA to hold an All Star game in a city that isn’t home to a team. Right? Well, they are holding the next one in Las Vegas, but that is just because of the glitz and glamour, right again? I think there is still a lot to be determined here, but nice job David Stern for giving a city in need the All Star Game!
