Roughly two weeks ago we predicted Les Miles to Michigan as their head coach and Bo Pelini to Nebraska. We were correct about Bo, but it seemed after a press conference by Miles called hours before the SEC Championship along with signing a contract extension with LSU that ole Les would remain as the head coach of LSU. This morning comes a news report from the Detroit Free Press that Miles spoke to Michigan this past weekend which seems quite Sabanesque. Don’t count Miles out quite yet to be in the maize and blue next year!

Les Miles is still going to Michigan despite what has been said today. The quote un quote breaking news of today that he is staying in Baton Rouge is complete BS. This news is merely a ploy to keep the LSU team on task today.
LSU Football Coaching Changes

The changes are coming and coming in waves. You can bet your bottom dollar that Les Miles and Bo Pellini of LSU will announce they are leaving LSU within the next week. Les Miles to Michigan is one of the worst kept secrets in college football so chalk him up as the next head coach for the Wolverines. Bo Pelini who is currently the defensive coordinator for the Tigers will be the new head coach of Nebraska in short order. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is announced before the weekend is over. Who the heck is going to coach LSU in their Bowl game? The waterboy?

Lloyd Carr retired today as the head coach of Michigan football after another season with high hopes ended on a bad note. Losing 6 of the last 7 to Ohio St.and Jim Tressel has a lot to do with his demise along with a loss to Appalachian State in the first game of this year. I think Carr should have called it quits a couple of years earlier because Michigan football is simply not the caliber it used to be and the fans know it.
I think Michigan football can be a true powerhouse again if they are able to lure Les Miles away from LSU. Remember it’s in Miles contract that he can go to Michigan for a $1.2 million buy-out which is nothing to Michigan athletics. Let the games begin!

Charlie Weisz and his 0-2 football team limped into ‘the Big House’ yesterday to face 0-2 Michigan. Michigan didn’t have senior quarterback Chad Henne, but running back Mike Hart was still confident and even guaranteed a win earlier in the week against Notre Dame. His guarantee came through and Michigan wiped the field with the Irish winning 38-0. The Irish and offensive guru Charlie Weisz could only muster 79 total yards on offense. 79 frickin yards??? I guess it makes sense considering Notre Dame has only mustered 345 total yards in three games for a putrid average of 115 yards a game. Horrendous…flat out!

The Michigan Wolverines were EMBARASSED in ‘The Big House’ for the second straight weekend. The first loss you knnow by now was to 1-AA Appalachian State and now they have lost to the Oregon Ducks. The final score was 39-7 against Oregon which means Lloyd Carr better have hired some armored body guards by now so he can get around in Ann Arbor. Running back Mike Hart isn’t ready to call this season quits yet though and has made a personal guarantee for the game against Notre Dame this coming weekend. ‘’We’re going to win next week,'’ Hart said. ‘’There’s no question in my mind. I guarantee we win next week.” Today came news that Henne is out and won’t play in the game against the Irish. Did Hart insert foot into mouth?
Appalachian State Shocks Michigan and the Nation
4 Comments Published by stonecoldjz September 2nd, 2007 in College FootballBeing that I’m a proud graduate of Applachian State University it makes what happened yesterday afternoon in Ann Arbor, Michigan even that much sweeter. The Mountaineers battled the entire game against super heavyweight Michigan in the Big House and had to block two field goals in the last four minutes with the last one coming under 10 seconds left in the game to win 34-32. Many people might not know the Happy Appies are back-to-back Division 1-AA champions with high expectations of going for the trifecta, but this monumental upset could never have been expected. No 1-AA college football team has ever beaten a ranked opponent and keep in mind Michigan was ranked FIFTH in the country and one of a hand full of teams expected to battle for a BCS Championship. Goodbye BCS Championship aspirations Michigan and hello invitation to move up to Divison 1 Appalachian State.

College Football AP Poll Quips
4 Comments Published by stonecoldjz August 19th, 2007 in College FootballThe official pre-season poll is out and we thought it was a good idea to review the poll and provide our thoughts.
1. USC (62) 0-0 1,622 - AGREE - 3 out of the last 4 years USC has been in this position and twice they headed into their BCS game as the #1 team in the country. I think this will be another year they finish #1 and they will win the BCS National Championship game.
2. LSU (2) 0-0 1,511 - DISAGREE - I understand that Matt Flynn is an excellent quarterback, but Russell will be missed and LSU takes a step back this year. They lose two games so no BCS game this year for them.
3. West Virginia (1) 0-0 1,396 - AGREE - Two Heisman hopefuls in Slaton and White will have Morgantown in a frenzy all year. West Virginia will get by Louisville at home and waltz into a BCS game.
4. Texas 0-0 1,375 - UNSURE - Colt McCoy is the real deal, but the Big 12 is very solid this year. I think 4th in the country is too high, but I could be wrong.
5. Michigan 0-0 1,371 - AGREE - Lloyd Carr gets the monkey off his back this year due to stud seniors Hart and Henne. This could be the BCS National Championship team this year.
6. Florida 0-0 1,276 - DISAGREE - Dream season last year quickly comes down to earth this season. They will lose at least two games and will not participate in the BCS.
7. Wisconsin 0-0 1,192 - DISAGREE - Tough schedule plus the loss of key offensive players will keep the Badgers out of the top 10.
8. Oklahoma 0-0 1,166 - AGREE - Stoops never ceases to amaze so I can’t disagree.
9. Virginia Tech 0-0 1,148 - DISAGREE - Virginia Tech is a BCS team and could finish in the top 5.
10. Louisville 0-0 1,031 - DISAGREE - Bobby Petrino will be sorely missed, but Brian Brohm will be a joy to watch.
11. Ohio State 0-0 876 - DISAGREE - Too much talent departed from last year for even the Buckeyes to reload properly.
12. California 0-0 790 - AGREE - Tedford is an excellent coach and the PAC-10 is strong this year.
13. Georgia 0-0 782 - UNSURE - There is always high expectations in Athens, but not much follow through from the Bulldogs in recent years.
14. UCLA 0-0 605 - AGREE - The Bruins return TONS of starters from a very good team last year.
15. Tennessee 0-0 571 - DISAGREE - Is this team really a contender anymore?
16. Rutgers 0-0 560 - DISAGREE - Ray Rice is a great running break, but that won’t lead to another dream season like last year.
17. Penn State 0-0 542 - UNSURE - This is one of the most boring college football teams in the history of the game so I just don’t know much about them.
18. Auburn 0-0 519 - AGREE - These guys only have four games on the road this year. FOUR!
19. Florida State 0-0 392 - AGREE - Last year’s poor performance will be on the Seminoles mind and should be a driving force towards a much better season this year.
20. Nebraska 0-0 377 - DISAGREE - Bill Callahan sux and games at Colorado, Texas, Missouri and USC @ home lead to a recipe for disaster.
21. Arkansas 0-0 376 - AGREE - Heisman winner McFadden and another stud Felix Jones make the Hogs an exciting team.
22. TCU 0-0 283 - AGREE - Excellent defense and a steady offense have made TCU a consistent force over the last few years.
23. Hawaii 0-0 256 - AGREE - This team will embarass many teams this year and could go through the regular season undefeated.
24. Boise State 0-0 187 - AGREE - Weak schedule and their only loss will come to Hawaii so they are a top 25 team.
25. Texas A&M 0-0 162 - UNSURE - This team is top 25 caliber for sure, but games at Miami, Nebraska, and Oklahoma will make things difficult. FYI If you haven’t seen Jorvorskie Lane run yet you need to make a point to do so this year.
Tommy Amaker Employed Again

His new job isn’t quite the gig he used to have, but at least he is getting a paycheck again. Amaker who was recently fired from the Michigan Wolverines because he flat out didn’t produce has accepted a job with Harvard men’s basketball. I really want to make a crack here, but Harvard is a prestigious school sor for now I will let it go. If Amaker can improve Harvard (which is questionable that he can) then maybe they can take the dynasty away from the University of Pennsylvania in NCAA Tournament appearances.

Michigan University announced they have fired Tommy Amaker as their mens basketball head coach. Amaker coached six seasons in Ann Arbor with a 109-83 overall record, but only 43-53 in the Big Ten. The most important thing to note is Amaker didn’t get the Wolverines into the NCAA Tournament once in his tenure. There is an ass load of names being tossed around already as the successor for the head coaching job. Mike Montgomery, Tony Bennett, Lon Kruger, Sean Miller, Steve Lavin and of course Rick Majerus. Good luck to Tommy and Michigan as they go their separate ways.
