Maria fought her way to a first-round 6-1, 3-6, 8-6 victory today over Evgeniya Rodina, a Russian teen making her Grand Slam debut. We were scared for a bit because it would have meant an early exit for Maria and that just isn’t right. This is the French Open at Roland Garros and Maria just has to be in the mix.

Maria Sharapova has won her first 14 matches of 2008 thus leading to winning her second straight title this year. Sharapova won the Australian Open earlier this year and today she won the Qatar Open after beating unseeded Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 2-6, 6-0. Along with the Qatar Open trophy Maria won an astounding $414,000. Damn, that is enough cabbage to blow anyones skirt up.

In the battle of the beauties Maria Sharapova dominated Ana Ivanovic in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to win the Australian Open yesterday. Sharapova didn’t lost a single set in the tournament and was head and shoulders the best player in the tourney. I expect Maria to win at least one more Grand Slam this year if she can keep up the command she displayed the last two weeks.
Maria Sharapova versus Elena Dementieva

Maria lost today to Venus Williams at Wimbledon in the round of 16. Sharapova could never get on track and lost in straight sets 6-1 6-3. We still love ya Maria.

One of our top 10 sports babes Maria Sharapova was smoked today at the French Open 6-2 6-1. The young lady who won is named Ana Ivanovic and is she a delight to look at or what? I can’t wait for the French Open ladies final tomorrow when she takes on Justin Henin.

The tennis major of Roland-Garros kicked off today and that can mean only two things. Rafael Nadal will win the men’s side of things, but more importantly it means close to two weeks of Maria Sharapova. Woohoo! She almost looks as excited as we are here at SportsUnderground.

Maria is no longer number one in the world in women’s tennis after being upset by Vera Zvonareva in the Pacific Life Open. Sharapova was up 5-3 in the second set with a chance to close out, but instead lost the next eight games in a row. I have a shoulder for you to cry on if you want Maria.
Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams pulled out of the Dubai Open which starts tomorrow. It has left Dubai tourney officials scrambling to bring other big names to the $1.5 million dollar event. Amelie Mauresmo flew in on short notice to help out since the tourney was in a pinch. That’s cool and all, but does Amelie look like the picture above?

The thicker and more mighty Serena Williams overpowered Maria Sharapova 6-1 6-2 last night in the Australian Open Final. Serena was ranked #81 before this tournament, but came into the Australian Open with a head of steam and destroyed the competition. The precious Maria Sharapova fell, but became the #1 ranked women’s player in the world after her excellent showing.
The real question is does the WTA Tour test for performance enhancing drugs? I mean Serena Williams looks like she is on a healthy diet of steroids for breakfast, lunch and dinner with animal adrenaline for dessert. I think it might be time to start the investigation.
