Flip Saunders was fired today by the Detroit Pistons. Joe Dumars who is the president of basketball operations for Detroit stated, “It’s time for a new voice to lead our team.” In Flip’s three seasons, the Pistons were 176-70 in the regular season and 30-21 in the playoffs. The problem was the Pistons fell short all three years in the playoffs by losing in the Eastern Conference Finals. Has anyone in management with the Pistons thought about the fact the Pistons are getting OLD and might be past their prime? Good luck to whoever takes the reigns next!

Chris Webber joined the Pistons last year as a free agent expecting to win a World Championship in hometown of Detroit. In reality fairy tales rarely happen thus Detroit was upset in six games by King James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now Webber seems to be chasing another dream after word comes out he plans to play for the Golden State Warriors for whom he played with during his rookie season. The odd thing is Webber utilized a one-year escape clause to get away from head coach Don Nelson after his rookie season yet now he is accepting an invitation from Nelson and Chris Mullin to play for the Warriors. If this isn’t an odd situation all the way around then I don’t know what is anymore. I think Webber can definitely provide a spark to the Warriors, but don’t look for anything better than a second round appearance in the Western Conference playoffs.

Chauncey Billups has opted out of his contract with the Detroit Pistons and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. Last year ‘Big Ben’ Wallace left Motown for Chicago and greener pastures (pun intended). I will go ahead and pronounce this is the beginning of the end for Detroit if they can’t retain Billups. Joe Dumars and Flip Saunders better be doing all they can to keep Chauncey in the fold.

Is officially loading up and heading to the NBA Finals. Cleveland domiated Detroit last night 98-82 in Cleveland to win the Eastern Conference finals 4-2. The NBA finals get kicked off this coming Thursday in San Antonio and I am looking forward to the battle. Can Bruce Bowen check Lebron James? Can Daniel Gibson keep up his unbelievable playoff run? Who does Cleveland use to guard Tim Duncan? All these questions and more will be answered in the next couple of weeks.

are done in six games. Last night’s 16 points in the fourth quarter was putrid especially considering they were in front of their home crowd. The Pistons were trying everything they could to give Chicago a chance, but the Bulls decided they would rather go fishing. Congrats to the Pistons for making the Eastern Conference Final.

Check out this LOW BLOW by Kirk Hinrich against Flip Murray yesterday in game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal tilt. Its not really noticeable until the third view, but when you see the dirty shot it will no doubt make you cringe. The most surprising thing is Flip Murray still finished a nasty dunk on Hinrich even with the cheap shot.

Chris Webber recently received a buy-out from the Philadelphia 76ers for what has been rumored to be around $35 million for this year and next.  Then the 76ers placed Webber on waivers and quickly the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, and Detroit Pistons became the front runners to sign him.  Webber has announced he will sign with the Detroit Pistons after discussions over the weekend with all three teams in contention.  Webber is really looking forward to returning to his roots in Michigan and hopes to help the struggling Pistons.  Webber does have the potential to lift them up to the championship caliber team they have been over recent years.  Not too bad of a deal for Webber to get paid sick cash to leave a non-playoff team in Philadelphia to a team with tons of potential.
