Carmelo Crunked Up

General Sports NBA

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after “swerving” on a local interstate and “failing to dim his lights” this morning around 4 AM in Denver. I suppose he was out celebrating after the Nuggets won last night against Houston pretty much securing the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoffs. I still don’t understand why these millionaires don’t have paid drivers in order to avoid situations like these.

J.R. Smith

J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets was at the wheel this weekend when his car was involved in an accident that killed one of his friends Andre Bell. Smith who is 21 has had his licensed suspended five times in the last year. His license was in good standing though at the time of the accident over the weekend.

Smith and Bell were thrown from his SUV when he ran a stop sign leading to the SUV colliding with a Jag and and flipping over. J.R. was hospitalized with an injured left shoulder and numerous scratches. His condition on Tuesday was not immediately available because privacy regulations at hospitals don’t allow information out on patients.

The investigation continues into the crash yet J.R. has already received two tickets for the accident. Smith accrued 27 points against his license from from spring of ‘05 to early ‘06 with eight moving violations. The violations included five speeding citations. His most recent license suspension was in February of this year.

Our wishes go out to Andre Bell’s family and we only hope J.R. learns how to drive or decides to pay someone else to do it for him.

Spurs Squeak Past Nuggets

NBA

Robert “Big Shot Bob” Horry nails yet another game winning three to push the Spurs past Denver last night. Horry has done this so many times now in his NBA career it’s down right ridiculous. Check out this video clip of the game winning shot that puts the Spurs up 3-1 in the series.

NBA Western Conference Upsets

NBA

Every team in the NBA Playoffs has played one game now and for the most part it was straight chalk. As a matter of fact all the higher seeds won their first round game until the last two games of yesterday. Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony combined for 61 points and outlasted the Spurs 95-89 in San Antonio. The Nuggets won their first game against San Antonio in the 2005 playoffs too, but then lost the next four games to the Spurs who went on to win then NBA Championship that year. The Nuggets know this is only one game, but if they keep scoring like they did last night then we might have a big upset in the first round of the playoffs.

Denver Nuggets

The final game of the night was even a bigger surprise than the Spurs upset. It shouldn’t be since Golden State has owned the Mavericks by winning their last five coming into last night’s game in Dallas. Baron Davis poured in 33 points and Golden State made it six wins in a row against the Mavericks with a 95-87 victory. Stephen Jackson dropped 23 and Jason Richardson added 13 for the Warriors while Dirk Nowitzki struggled bad and ended up with 14 on the night. This is supposed to be the year for Dallas and this certainly isn’t a way to start off your quest for the NBA Championship.

NBA First Round of Playoffs

NBA Playoffs

Are there going to be any big upsets in the first round of the playoffs this year? The first round series normally are yawners, but I am going to try and predict one that will surprise you. Let me know what you think!

I really really want to pick the Warriors over the Mavericks, but I just can’t pull the trigger. I am going to take the Nuggets over the Spurs instead.

Carmelo Anthony Dissed

NBA

Carmelo AnthonyThe leading scorer of the NBA Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets was left off the Western Conference All Star reserves today.  Do you think this has anything to do with showing his A$$ in Madison Square Garden a couple of months ago in the melee with the Knicks?  You damn right it does and it makes me very happy because it finally seems the NBA is trying hard to clean up its image and not prop up the players who bring them down.

SportsUnderground.com's Dumb A$$ of the Week AwardThis week it goes to the NBA’s leading scorer Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. Carmelo decided to put a big black eye on what has been an oustanding season for him to date this past Saturday in a game against the New York Knicks. Carmelo was involved in an ugly brawl with the Knicks after teammate J.R. Smith was hammered on the way to the hoop against Mardy Collins. Carmelo currently averages 31.8 points a game, but will miss 15 games due to his part in the latest NBA brawl. The NBA has to shed itself its thug image, but this latest incident will only make it harder.
