Florida covers +7.5 against Ohio State in the BCS Championship Game

I certainly haven’t been good on my bowl summaries today so for the final three games of the day I am only going to say who his playing. No run down on stats or players and I’m definitely not going to pick the spread. I will be back at it tomorrow so keep checking back with the Underground.

Liberty Bowl - Houston vs South Carolina

Insight Bowl - Texas Tech vs Minnesota

Champs Sports Bowl - Purdue vs Maryland

Well, I dropped the ball again yesterday being that I didn’t provide a run down for the Motor City Bowl. I can’t even blame egg nog overdose for this latest mishap. I will do my best to not let it happen again, but you will forgive me if I do it again, right?

Ok, let’s get to the real heart of the matter. UCLA has covered their last four games to improve to 8-3-1 ATS this season. In games played on grass, UCLA is 8-2 ATS this season. The Bruins’ defense has been especially hot, holding their last three opponents to 9.3 PPG. FSU has only covered twice in their last six games. FSU’s running game has been almost non-existent as of late. Over the last three games they have averaged just 48.3 RYPG. This isn’t good news for FSU bettors, as the UCLA “D” gives up less than 90 RYPG. Unless Florida State can become a diamond in the rough the Bruins should win this bowl easily.

I couldn’t have been much farther off on my New Orleans Bowl prediction, but those sort of things happen sometimes. Today there are three bowls on the slate.

PapaJohns.com Bowl

South Florida vs East Carolina - should be some offensive fireworks, but in the end South Florida will put this one out. The 8-4 Bulls had high expectations coming into this season and will want to finish out with a W.

New Mexico Bowl

New Mexico vs San Jose St - 8-4 San Jose State rolls into the Lobos’ home stadium for this bowl game. This doesn’t quite seem fair and I think this will be the edge New Mexico needs to win this game in a defensive struggle.

Armed Forces Bowl

Tulsa vs Utah - This should be an excellent game and in the end 7-5 Utah will take down 8-4 Tulsa.

TCU covers -12 against Northern Illinois in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

This morning it really felt like the sun was shining a little brighter and it seemed as if I had a little extra skip in my step. It took me until around lunch time to figure out why this was the case. Then I realized at lunch that today starts the college bowl season and everyday from here until early January is jam packed with college football. The first game of the bowl season is the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl hosting TCU vs. Northern Illinois.(what a mouthful) Northern Illinois has a running back named Garrett Wolfe who is the nation’s leading rusher at 158 yards per game. The problem is the Horned Frogs haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher in their last 19 games and bolster the #4 rushing defense in the nation. The question will be whether Northern Illinois can initiate a passing game that could then hopefully allow for the running game to open up. If this doesn’t happen then you can forget Northern Illinois having a chance to win. Stay tuned to SportsUnderground in the coming days and weeks for more summaries of the bowl games.
