Brett’s a Jet

Brett Favre

I know the saga of Brett Favre has been riveting, but I have to admit I’m glad we finally have an ending. We will no longer have to see the ‘Favre’ item located on the ESPN sports ticker every few minutes. I’m sure the Packers suits feel they won the duel because Favre didn’t land anywhere in the NFC and furthermore he ends up with the Jets who in all reality don’t have much of a chance of making the playoffs. You have to think New England, Indy, San Diego and Jacksonville are all locks for the playoffs which only leaves room for two other AFC teams. Those teams would include Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincy, Tennessee, Buffalo, Baltimore and the Jets. Jets fans are thrilled today to have Brett on their team, but don’t let the hype fool you because in the end Favre is only worth two extra wins which isn’t getting you very far this year.

Green Bay Packers cheeseheads

We are over a month into the Brett Favre fiasco and it still hasn’t been resolved. There has been tons of finger pointing and name calling and in the end no one will ever know who was telling the truth and who wasn’t. The one sure thing is Favre won’t be in a Green Bay uniform this year and that is what Green Bay management wanted from the beginning. The Packers brass are trying to work out a deal now with either Tampa Bay, the New York Jets or the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League ;-) to send Favre packing. They have decided Aaron Rodgers is their starting quarterback and I think that is why their season is officially done. I would argue the pressure on Rodgers is more than any other quarterback has ever faced in the NFL due to how popular Favre has been and still is in Green Bay. It will take one or two interceptions in the first game of the year and the fans will be calling for Rodger’s head. Let’s not forget that earlier this week there were tons of fans at practice yelling for Favre to come back and booing his replacement. Finally, there has to be a lot of players on the team who remember just last year Favre finishing second in the MVP race and missed making the Super Bowl by mere seconds. You take the pressure on Rodgers along with fans ready for mutiny and mix in a separated locker room and you have what I think is a recipe for disaster. The Packers will not make the playoffs and better yet will not finish better than .500

Favre Fever

General Sports

Brett Favre

It’s early July which means NFL traning camp is just around the corner. This also means it’s time for the Brett Favre is returning to the Packers rumors to start flying. Chris Mortensen has reported Favre has been in touch with head coach Mike McCarthy informing him he still has the “itch” to play. The story went on to state that even Favre’s family is encouraging him to return. This news in conjunction with Brett’s old teammate Al Harris stating on ESPN radio yesterday that Favre has also informed him he has the “itch”. Based on these stories all indications appear Favre is coming back right? Well, not so fast my friend. The Mississippi’s Sun Herald newspaper contacted Favre and the reports are “all rumor.” Hmmm, someone isn’t telling the whole story it appears. I think this is only the beginning to what will be a soap opera summer in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Brett Favre Retiring

Brett Favre retiring

Brett Favre told his coach Mike McCarthy that he is done with professional football. I truly thought Favre had at least two years left in him, but today comes news telling us otherwise. Could it be that once Moss signed with the New England Patriots it allowed Favre to make his decision? Today is the end of an era in the NFL and for the Green Bay Packers!

Brett Favre for MVP

General Sports NFL

Brett Favre

It seems that when most people discuss the NFL MVP these days it revolves around the idea that Tom Brady has already locked this award up. I understand the Patriots are 10-0 and possibly heading towards an undefeated season, but don’t hand Brady the award yet. Brett Favre is also in the race for the MVP and his 20 completions in a row yesterday along with 381 yards and 3 touchdowns against Detroit displays how important he is to the Packers.

Brett Favre doesn’t have Randy Moss, Dante Stallworth, Wes Welker, and Ben Watson on his squad yet check out the numbers below. The Packers were not expected to be very good this year yet they stand at 10-1 due to the superior play of Brett Favre to date and for the leadership and experience he exudes. I think it’s a no brainer that Favre should win the MVP!

* Favre has 3,356 yards after 11 games while Brady has 3,059 after 10
* Favre averages 305.1 yards a game versus Brady’s 305.9
* Favre 22 TD’s to Brady’s 38

StonecoldJZ's Sound Off

* The Kobe Bryant trade rumors continue with the Bulls on a daily basis, but nothing to this point is imminent. Kobe has flip-flopped once again and said he doesn’t want to be a distraction to a team and right now its business as usual. This after just a week ago the blubbering baby packed up his entire locker. Hey Kupchak, get the deal done!

* Torre, Mattingly and A-Rod to the Dodgers? This is one intoxicating rumor and if it was to come true the Dodgers would become legit for the first time since Gibson hit his historic World Series home run. I definitely think A-Rod has a deal wrapped up somewhere or he wouldn’t have taken a shit on the Yankees, the Red Sox and the World Series by announcing during Game Four last night that he was opting out of his contract with the Yankees. If you don’t understand how he took a shit on all three at once then you probably shoud be back in cursive writing class.

* Man-genius finally announced the benching of Chad Pennington in return for Kellen Clemens receiving the starting nod. My only question is why wasn’t this one a month ago when the Jets still had a chance this season?

* Edgar Renteria was traded today from the Braves to the Detroit Tigers. I remember when Renteria played in the AL for the Red Sox a few years back. He was a bigger flop with the Sox than Reuben Studdard was after leaving American Idol. Renteria has been a nice player in the NL, but if the Braves are willing to let him go for two minor leaguers I would say he has seen better days.

* The Packers go up against probably the best secondary in the NFL, but I don’t see that stopping the ageless wonder. I expect Favre to have a great night tonight in front of the nation on Monday Night Football.
