After paying over $50 million just to talk with Daisuke Matsuzuka the Red Sox have been scrambling to sign the Japanese star pitcher. It appears Sox fans can take a sigh of relief because reportedly a deal has been struck for six years at $52 million. There are escalator clauses that could bring it up to $60 million. All in all Boston has paid $100 million for someone who has never pitched in a MLB game. I know this was a stressful few weeks trying to sign Matsuzuka, but I would even be more stressed that he will never be able to live up to the money spent on him.
