No No in Motown

Justin Verlander

Justin Verlander just pitched a no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers this evening in Detroit. It’s the first no-hitter for the Tigers since Jack Morris did it back in 1984. You da man Justin!

Phil Hellmuth Knows Poker

Phil Hellmuth

I can’t stand his antics and attitude, but Phil Hellmuth could be the best poker player EVER. ‘The Poker Brat’ won his record breaking 11th World Series of Poker bracelet last night in Las Vegas. Hellmuth won the $1,500 No Limit Hold’Em event when his opponent Andy Philachack pushed his last $500,000 in with A10 of clubs against Hellmuth’s A3 offsuit. The flop brought a horrible bad beat with a 3 and a vitory to Hellmuth. If roles were reversed we would still hear Hellmuth bitching and moaning today. The win earned Hellmuth $637,254!

Vince McMahon Dead?

If you didn’t see last night’s live episode of WWE Raw then you missed some serious fireworks. There was a full draft to determine which wrestlers would compete in either RAW, Smackdown, or ECW moving forward. Along with the draft it was also Vince McMahon Appreciation Night and it ended with a stunning twist. McMahon came out at the end of the evening for an acceptance speech, but coulnd’t mutter a word because of all the heckling he was receiving from the crowd. McMahon literally walked out of the coliseum with his tail between his legs and as he was entering his limousine it blew up mafia style. It is presumed that Vince McMahon is dead and the WWE fans are in awe. Click the link below for video footage of Vince McMahon’s limousine blowing up and all the other details around this shocking news.

New Home for Little E

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

We are supposed to find out tomorrow where Dale Earnhardt Jr. will land after announcing his departure from DEI. I have heard so many theories and guesses at where he will land I won’t even venture to take a guess myself. I am looking forward to the news and can only hope he doesn’t land on the same team with Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson.

J.R. Smith Failed Driving School or Least It Seems!

J.R. Smith

J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets was at the wheel this weekend when his car was involved in an accident that killed one of his friends Andre Bell. Smith who is 21 has had his licensed suspended five times in the last year. His license was in good standing though at the time of the accident over the weekend.

Smith and Bell were thrown from his SUV when he ran a stop sign leading to the SUV colliding with a Jag and and flipping over. J.R. was hospitalized with an injured left shoulder and numerous scratches. His condition on Tuesday was not immediately available because privacy regulations at hospitals don’t allow information out on patients.

The investigation continues into the crash yet J.R. has already received two tickets for the accident. Smith accrued 27 points against his license from from spring of ’05 to early ’06 with eight moving violations. The violations included five speeding citations. His most recent license suspension was in February of this year.

Our wishes go out to Andre Bell’s family and we only hope J.R. learns how to drive or decides to pay someone else to do it for him.

The New Tennis Hottie

Ana Ivanovic

Ana Ivanovic

One of our top 10 sports babes Maria Sharapova was smoked today at the French Open 6-2 6-1. The young lady who won is named Ana Ivanovic and is she a delight to look at or what? I can’t wait for the French Open ladies final tomorrow when she takes on Justin Henin. 🙂

Keith Langston – Mississippi Motorsports

Checkered flags

We are always taking on new partners and sponsors, but from time to time we like to promote others. One of the new ventures SportsUnderground.com is taking on is Keith Langston and Mississippi Motorsports. Keith Langston races weekly at Orange County Speedway (Rougemont, NC) or South Boston Speedway (South Boston, VA) and moving forward we will give updates on how our official racer performs. Stay tuned for news and updates on Keith Langston in the coming weeks!

The Mighty Ducks

Anaheim Mighty Ducks

Since probably no one saw it live I thought I would make sure everyone knew the Anaheim Mighty Ducks won the Stanley Cup last night. Anaheim worked the Ottawa Senators all series and won the series 4-1. A few key notes to mention from the series: the Mighty Ducks have been in the league for 14 years, the Cup will reside in a western home for the first time ever, and a team from Canada hasn’t won the Cup since Montreal did in 1993.

New Magic Man

Stan Van Gundy

Out with Billy Boy and in with Stan “The Porno Man” Van Gundy for Orlando. The Magic have let Billy Donovan out of the contract he wanted to break within three days of agreeing to it and will sign Ron Jeremy…err….Stan as their new head coach. I personally think this is an excellent hire because he has solid experience in the NBA and did a great job with the Miami Heat until Pat Riley decided to take the reigns. In the long run this worked out well for everyone since Donovan can go back to Gainesville and Van Gundy gets another head coaching gig.

Trent Green Has Landed

Trent Green

It has only taken a million references of the rumor on ESPN Sportscenter and two months longer than expected, but Trent Green is now finally a Miami Dolphin. The Dolphins gave up a five round draft pick in 2008 to receive veteran starting quarterback Trent Green who had many sucessfull years in Kansas City. The Dolphins have been without a solid quarterback for a LONG time so can Trent be the savior of South Beach???

The answer is…..YES if he has truly recovered from the awful hit he received last year against the Bengals that led to a bad concussion. The Dolphins will win a wild-card berth to the NFL playoffs this year.
